I am in a debate with fellow member's on a Ferrari website about who is leading the championship? Several of them say that Lewis is leading the championship by virtue of his three win's but Massa also had three win's and Massa, Kimi and Lewis are tied in point's! :banghead:

So my question is, as I cannot find the info, the number of win's does not matter and has not mattered since '89, who is right?

Hamilton leads Massa on aggregate. Bud is correct. Massa has more DNFs than Hamilton thus Hamilton's non point scoring races have been higher finishes than at least 2 of Massa's non point scoring races.

Thank's bud and AKR. :)

I guess they won that debate but nothing was mentioned concerning the aggregate standing's. They need to do away with all that aggregate crap imho and get back to the most win's format which I read Bernie is considering. In the current format I believe that total point's are the most important factor and the aggregate stuff is just simply bullpoo.

It does go by most wins first. Massa and Hamilton are on equal wins. You then look at most 2nd places, 3rd places etc. The 2 drivers are very much equal in all top end positions. The difference is that Hamilton has scored in place finishes in all but one race (The Canadian GP) even if no points were scored. Massa has DNF in the first 2 races alone. This is why Hamilton is first and Massa second. Kimi has 2 wins as well but on the same points. Because he has LESS wins than both Hamilton and Massa he is 3rd overall.

aggregate is only used when two guys are on the same points, then it comes down to the most wins, seeing as Lewis and Felipe both have 3 then it comes down to the most 2nd 3rd and as AKR said most point scores

im not sure on the most wins gets the championship as what does 2nd place get in a race? in that scenario they would get no reward.

what i think needs to be done is give the winner a higher reward than just 2 points to 2nd place like it used to be 10 6 4 3 2 1

If the championship ended exactly the same why as it is now (after the British GP), Lewis Hamilton would be the new world Champion. He would win by the closests of margins but he would be the winner. There is no other logical way to determine the winner and in F1 it isn't like football where you can decide the winner by a playoff or penalty shootout.

I would like to see either the old point's structure again or the most win's structure. If the most win's structure is implemented 2nd place get's the honor of having finished higher than the other's and with enough top finish's they could place second in the championship which is big buck's for the team.
