...and party? :drink:

How much is the Earth at risk from this:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/7468966.stm

Is it necessary to conduct such experiments, which are 'very unlikely' to kill the whole dang planet?

i saw that, a bit worrying tbh, its not worth the risk, 'my bad' doesnt really cover this one!

Who would want to do such a stupid thing like this anyway? :?

Umm, scientists? Some people want to time-travel, you know... :hehe:

I think there's a higher probability that there will be a nuclear war, or that you'll be hit by a bus.

Or that Star Trek will really exist.

the risks outway the benifits definitly here, its to unpredictable, its pretty irresponsible

Nah there is a less than minimal risk here. I find the whole thing bloody amazing and have actually read into this type of physics quite a lot . . . although I think this is probably the wrong forum to discuss that :hehe:

Just chill you guys - it's Swiss precision at work, not some Ukrainian dingbat flipping the switch in Chernobyl

Hey Chernobyl was bad enough...

and when they stuff it up they are wimpy neutrals so no one can fight them

the Earth will not be sucked into a man made black hole i dont think they will have enough energy produced to melt the space time continuum either! Think of the force at work in black holes in space, we are talking stars that have collapsed!
But so what if it does end the world? whats the difference between a slow man made decay and a massive catastrophic man made incident that ends the world?
:drink:

The difference is, that in the second case we won't be here to discuss that. :D

maybe not here maybe in another dimension

A few years ago they reckoned that micro black holes appear in our atmosphere with regularity anyway. Clicky (Disclaimer: I don't know if this theory was ever disproven beacuse I haven't read NS properly for an absolute age). Assuming that the theory is correct, I don't think CERN's activites will mean the end of the world - and personally, I'm not all that worried :)

Na neither am I, I mean I could just go outside and be hit by a bus. You can't predict these things.
