but, what exactly does that all mean?

Staying in a lower gear for longer means to use higher revs before changing up. Whether that has an effect on the fuel pressure or makes a difference to the fuel being injected or something else, I don't know.

i think this causes less ers harvesting/deployment. Its not very efficient as the efficiency torque rev peak is lower down but ultimately yields a better power/torque (more for less) ratio
