Team mates. What a potential can of worms. Two fiercely competitive guys, both in the same team, both with the same equipment ( possibly). But only one can win out. Some resort to politics to get an edge, some are favoured by a TP, some will backstab a team mate. Sometimes team mates are closely matched in skill level, sometimes one is clearly better. Some team mates will push each other too far to the detriment of the team. Some team mates will push themselves to the limit to the advantage of the team. Some teams let their drivers fight fair. Some teams chose a favourite from the outset. Some teams chose a point in the season to support one driver over the other. Team mates, a potential can of worms!

I can highlight a pair of team mates that for me tick all the boxes, for the time being. One of those drivers is my favourite. But that's not why I've chosen this pair ( my favourite has also been paired with team mates that for differing reasons have not been good)Somewhere along the line there has to be respect. Not just respect for the driving skill of the team mate, but respect for the person. And that's why I've chosen these two, I think they have respect, Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton. Will it remain good a whole season, with the intense battles that may ensue? who knows?
But here are a few reasons why I've chosen these two......

I hope this superb pairing remains as it is all season and beyond, it might not I realise that. There's a lot at stake for both guys. But so far we've seen superb racing, fair play and respect.

Who are your favourite pairings and why?

You don't expect the level they race at for everything to be all sweetness and light do you?

Nope. But at the same time no team wants a webber/vetted strained relationship either

Nope. That's why the guys are talking about limits instead of going over them. I think Senna and Prost went over them.

Yes but maybe that was the appeal of the battle. I do not think team/sponsors would stand for it now

You have a point... In the end, there are millions upon millions of dollars invested in a season for any team not to step in at some point, eh?

Either driver will feel they've been given equal opportunity to win the title and that if the other man wins they've deserved it, even if luck has stepped in, like mechanical failures, because that's part of racing. So long as Merc do their part. Mercedes have handled their success well so far but it hasn't been long. We're not near enough the pointy end of the season for that. They have to show the other teams how to produce an interesting championship with a dominant car, otherwise they're no better than RB or Ferrari.

I think Mercedes can afford the luxury of letting them race. It's good for the fans it's good fir the sport and the more the rivalry is amped the better it is for the sponsors.

It'll be interesting to see how Lewis V Nico develops over the course of the season, and especially if they're close together in the WDC towards the late season races. That will be fascinating.

Speaking of team-mates, I wish the Raikkonen-Montoya-McLaren one worked out better. It had such potential... :(

I wonder if you'll still be thinking the same way by the end of the season RC, I hope it doesn't come to any foul play but from some of the things Rosberg said after Bahrain or maybe just the way he said them it could be a fierce battle between them.

I'm sure it will be a fierce battle. And Mercedes have said they're free to fight, so let's see how it pans out. I'm not saying these two will be all sweetie pie all season, there's too much at stake.
There was only one move in Bahrain that Nico thought was overly aggressive from Lewis out of that race long battle. Lewis obviously thinks his move was fair, so they're going to talk about that. Will it get more edgy as the season progresses? Probably. But what I like is that neither of these two go sneaking around off track trying to get a political advantage.

Or tell the team to turn the other guy's engine down and then try to overtake them. I welcome a fierce (and fair) battle. At the end of the year if Nico comes out on top, so be it, he would have earned it. The winners will be the fans that's for sure.
