It's about the fact they run unrestricted turbos: if the fuel flow rate were to be unrestricted, the teams could have turbo bursts in the ballpark of 2000hp, which in the eyes of the FIA would create a huge speed differential between cars that would be too dangerous.

But if they did that surely they run out of fuel? Isn't the fuel limit self regulating on that?

Short bursts, overtake, sail off the distance and then cruise home: computers could come up with a working algorithm...

But if you have an allotted amount if fuel and use it wisely...ie do your short bursts at opportune moments and cruise to make up at opportune moments; isn't that part of being clever on strategy?

Yes, it would be Vettel-esque, but in the turbo era, the FIA deems the huge speed differential as too dangerous, hence, the fuel flow restriction with sensors.

Also the idea of the regs are efficiency. With unrestricted flow rate, we are back to more power more fuel. With the restriction manufacturers were forced to get more power from less fuel flow. Except Renault didn't.
It would change the game if each car could pump out unlimited power in bursts out of a total of 100kg during the race

Looking at FP3, Vettel seems to be dearly missing his blown diffuser. :hehe:

The speed of the turbine is not the same as the turbo boost which can be turned up and just means more air and more fuel is been crammed by the rotating turbine.
So any turbo can be turned up but will need more fuel and more instant chilling of the increased air crammed etc etc

Wow great performance from Nico in Q3, quarter of a second ahead of Lewis. Uncharacteristic last lap by Lewis messing up at T1 there.

Kimi outqualifies whatshisface.

Set for a great race tomorrow.
