Read something about there might be a protest against Ferrari's turbo housing for some reason. Anyone know anything about this?

Ferrari's safety housing has been approved by the FiA. Ferrari decided to build their safety housing into the turbo unit itself. The other teams build theirs external to the turbo. Ferrari are racing with their design in Melb. Teams that didn't think of Ferrari's solution have threatened to not accept the FiA's ruling and take it further.

So was Mercedes tire test.

What? We don't get to take cheap shots at our respective favourite teams/drivers? We don't get to go around in endless circles repeating the same mantra. We just nicely put our points and both get the chance to learn something. How neat if we could get this idea to catch on

I Don't see how a 'housing' can be incorporated into a component, for it no longer is a housing once it is apart of that component...

Eh, whydoaineed an umbrella if I gotta a raincoata?

That's a fair point. I believe Ferrari read the rule carefully and with a strict interpretation in that the rule doesn't say that the protection that is needed should be a separate shield.

I wonder if other teams will be allowed, under the homologation rule to change the structure of their turbo housing to copy what Ferrari has done. If they already have a safety shield could they argue it is needed for safety?

... I'm worried about Ferrari though, if Merc are having to lift that much to save fuel imagine how Ferrari have to with their thirsty engine.

Nico said Merc were under fueled. So it could be that their engine is actually so efficient/powerfull that they were looking at doing the whole race with LESS than 100 units on board....

Personally I have no idea how the respective engines will be on fuel consumption - other than to be sure their won't be any big differences. Whether Ferrari is the most or least thirsty is a mystery to me at this point in time.

However I did take note when Nico "warned that getting to the chequered flag on the 100 litres of fuel permitted this year could be a serious challenge" in an interview posted on the F1.com site.
