Kimi Raikkonen’s aversion to simulators is well known and well documented, but at the start of his second stint as a Ferrari driver the Finn appears to have embraced the concept.

On Monday Raikkonen embarked on his first week’s work at Maranello since he departed at the end of the 2009 Formula 1 season. It was the first of three days at the factory where he is familiarising himself with the 2014 version of the team, for whom he won the world title for in 2007 – their last F1 World Championship triumph to date.

He will be meeting the engineers and team personnel whom he will be working with during 2014 and beyond.

Raikkonen said, “It’s good to be back at work. I began by getting used to all the new systems and procedures that we will use this year. From this point of view, the simulator is really very useful.”

“It’s true there’s lots to do, but the workload is not much different to what it was in the past. For me, these days in Maranello are also an opportunity to be with the team and spend a bit more time with my many friends here,” added the driver popularly known as the Iceman.

At the same time last year Raikkonen said, “I just think that I can learn nothing in the simulator. I learn a new track quickly, without a simulator.”

This opinion seems to have been reversed as F1 ‘testing’ these days is virtual, predominantly done on simulators, as real world testing is severely curtailed in an effort to cut costs.

Ferrari said on its website, “Kimi will stay in Maranello until Wednesday this week, proving that the Finn is keen to renew his relationship with the team that was his home from 2007 to 2009, as quickly as possible.”

Nice little 2 minute interview with Kimi. Couple of take-aways for me are his calm attitude, from a driver's perspective, as to all the changes, ditto on the double points - "it is what it is". If Ferrari can produce a competitive car, I think Kimi is will be formidable this year.

 Bravo!! He seemed very comfortable with that "Ferrari" PR guy, eh?

Here's hoping that Ferrari lets Kimi be interviewed only by the Ferrari media
personnel and that Alonso is the mouthpiece elsewhere!!

Kimi Raikkonen says there is no way of telling yet how his relationship with 2014 Ferrari Formula 1 team-mate Fernando Alonso will bear up to the heat of competition.

Although both drivers are excited about what their partnership should deliver, there are concerns that it could produce some tense moments if they end up battling wheel-to-wheel.

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo admitted before Christmas that the line-up had its dangers, but equally he was sure both men would do what was best for the team...

..."We have a respect against each other and we try to come out on top, but we know what the team expects from us and time will tell what happens.

"There is a lot of talk from outside of all the problems and all those kinds of things, but inside the team we have a good feeling.

"We have to wait and see how it goes, and hopefully we can bring both titles back to the team."

Alonso underlined that he expected both of them to do what was best for the team - even if it meant personal ambitions had to be sacrificed.

"We will follow whatever the team priority is, and we try to do our best to win both championships and bring back to Ferrari some of the success Ferrari had in the past," he said.

"The best way to achieve that is to race at 100 per cent level every race, and try to always bring back the points to the team and ourselves.

"To do that we need to work in perfect harmony and follow what the team priority is, and what the team will tell us."

I do as well. I think this will be the strongest pairing in F1, but I do expect fireworks from time to time. In fact I am looking forward to them. :wavey:

The first three "official" days of Kimi Raikkonen's second stint with the Prancing Horse proved useful for him to familiarise himself with the technical aspects that go to make up part of a driver's job wherever he is. In addition, it was also a chance for him to re-immerse himself in the special atmosphere only to be found at Ferrari.
