Ohmygod! I'm so excited about this!! My McLaren doldrums years are dissipating.

Course. Mercedes still rule. ATM

Merc rule fo sur, and Ron wont undo the mess created by the other guy for a while. But at least we get another team on the grid we can actually watch out for, after Merc. Maybe soon they will even be able to take points off RBR and Ferrari as Lewis and Nico monopolise the podium.

But it means even if Button stays we will see proper fairness and true competition and hunger within the team.

no more 'lets talk about :duckie: he gained 5 places today from 20th to 15th, and gained them in a spectaculary manner, Magnussen, yes he came third but we expected more from him'

Already seeing this thread in a whole new light now. I'm sure the uptrend has already begun at Woking. Mainly I'm relieved to see McLaren were not just sitting back and let two lame ducks drive the entire team to the ground.

Ok its all becoming a lot clearer - McLaren failed the crash test and might not make Jerez

Like some of us said earlier in this thread, Whitmarsh is gonna make 2013 look like a brilliant year compared to 2014. Proof, thats why the stakeholders finally woke up and stopped being disturbed

Reports in Italy indicate that the MP4-29, designed by Matt Morris, is behind schedule due to failing the mandatory FIA crash tests.

This implies that the online presentation scheduled for 24 January will not feature the complete and ready to test MP4-29, but rather a mock-up of the 2014 car.

This is unbelievable for a team like Mclaren

Before 2012, teams only had to pass the tests prior to being allowed to compete in grands prix.

Although there is still time for McLaren to resubmit its car for homologation so it can make Jerez, the nature of crash tests mean there is no guarantee that it will pass.

Should the worst happen then the team would have no option but to delay its on-track appearance.

Whitmarshs team built a car with a suspension part upside down last year. Now they may have built something that doesnt pass as a car at all

So IMHO McLaren are either gonna come out of the blocks flying (doubtful to be honest seeing how their last new car turned out) or 2014 will be worse than 2013.

2015 is best chance for recovery minus Button Whitmarsh and a few other muppets.

the McLaren board should have read this old post a while back

What is people opinion on this though. Could the problems from Martin's McLaren could stem from the culture of Ron's Mclaren. As in his leadership style was just not what was needed. So say Martin moved to another team his leadership might not of looked as bad?

Martin is just not strong enough to handle a cut throat high tempo business like F1 team. The way he handled Button and Lewis showed this. Lewis was a real talent but hard work, Button was weaker but easy. Whitmarsh took the path of least resistance all the time.
Saying things like 'someone has to come last' or 'we cant win all the time' everyone has a bad run'
Not a bad word for Button messing up quali, but all smile when he makes up a few places from 15th
He would be the same at any other team, he is naive and easily led, and the obvious attraction and love for Button was beyond a joke

So you have to ask yourself the question, how did he get into the position he has?

He was Rons assistant for a long time. He is probably a good PA or secretary or lacky. But he is not an alpha male like Ron, he was never gonna become CEO or boss of anything. His career upo to then was middle management, never a boss, and most definetely never start his own business or create something out of nothing while others are trying to steal from your plate.

Why did he become TP and McLaren boss?

Max Mosely. Max whipped himself into a frenzy over Ron for ages, because Ron the ex mechanic was not going to look up to him and was capable of outsmarting him. So when Max had the chance to get rid of him, starting with spygate and then liegate he took his chance. And Martin was more his type of kiss bottom bum chum private club buddy. (there is no evidence whitmarsh was a regular at Max' disturbing dungeon parties)

So all of a sudden Ron had to leave to save the company and whitmarsh was the one who could smooth things over with his bum chum at the FIA. Then martin forgot his place and Ron tried to get rid of him

And has done

Not sure max had anything to do with it. What happened to McLaren was self inflicted. Maybe Martin was just a yes man to Ron.
