We have another entry for the writing competition. I hope you enjoy it. Find it also in the 'form and website issues section.

Air Con
I’m not a fan of air conditioning, though I suspect I am in the minority. My experiences with it have not been good, and I hate to be cold.

Let me start with air con in cars. I prefer the windows down, or the roof off, or the skylight open. Wind in hair, sun on skin…happy! But I am always out-voted and the air con goes on- misery! It makes my nose tickle. Michael Schumacher has the same issue. He always knows when the air con is on and asks for it to be turned off. That is probably the one and only thing I have in common with Michael Schumacher, a dislike of air conditioning. So it’s turned on and I gradually start to chill. My shoes come off and my feet are pulled up under my bottom to keep warm, I HATE cold feet. I sit there shivering and snivelling until the car stops and the sun comes back.

Air con on aeroplanes. Well I just don’t want to go there!! The germs circulating the system on planes don’t bare thinking about.

Holidays. Joy! Warm sun, sun dresses, eating alfresco, wonderful! First stop Florida. Eating alfresco? No. We are ushered into iceboxes where a track suit would be more suitable than a sun dress. And the hotel/motel, whatever it was, that had air conditioning too. It smelt like rotting vegetables, particularly lettuce, and it rattled all night. But let’s leave Florida there, because Florida is a whole new story. Watch out for ‘Florida’, coming your way soon.

We’ll skip to the Med. Balmy, beautiful and they most definitely do eat outdoors. There are tables in the street, on the beach, on the prom, where one can enjoy a local dish and a bottle of wine whilst the sun goes down and the stars start to shine, the waves are gently lapping on the shore. Heaven!
After a few nights of this we wander the back streets in search of a restaurant specialising in the local seafood, and as luck has it we stumble across it, and there are free tables. We are shown inside by the attentive waiters. Horror! There is air con! Why do they do this? Do they enjoy watching a carefully nurtured suntan turn to pale goosy flesh skin? Or are the waiters playing a little game? A game called ‘Let’s see how long ‘till this girl shows she REALLY likes me’. Well 5, 4 , 3, 2, 1. Yep, I really like these waiters, and they know it!

NOTE: to girls with big nipples (no scratch that) to girls with nipples. DO NOT GO INTO AIR CONDITIONED RESTAURANTS WEARING A SKIMPY SUNDRESS!!

But we are in; so there I sit. Legs are wrapped round each other as many times as they can go to keep warm. I seriously consider taking my sandals off and doing the sitting on feet trick. I am pale, rubbing my arms to keep warm, and liking the waiters a lot. The meal is endured rather than enjoyed, which is a shame because the food is good. But it’s consumed with haste, no dessert, and out, out into the warm wonderful evening air. It wraps itself around me, caresses my skin and I slowly come back to life. Ahhhh! Time to find a bar, an outdoor bar where the breeze can play with my hair and I can still feel the touch of the sun from earlier in the day.

I'm sorry to inform you RC but sitting in a skimpy dundress in the restaurant is very much recommended ;)

However, everything else I agree with. I'm always cold and know the feeling :(
