Someone suddenly sounds like Alonso last year when he was galvanising and rallying the team...

I think it's a good idea to be specific that what you are writing is what you believe by using words like I think and I believe and it seems to me!! That way no one can confuse what you think and what you are speculating with the facts available/presented by the media/PR agents!

What I find amusing is I haven't really said anything detrimental about Button for a while in this thread, but some people here can't help jumping to conclusions just because I'm posting in this thread.

What ONE thinks tends to be a speculation based on available facts. The more a speculation has structure and enough facts to support it, the less one has to include disclaimers. Generally speaking anyone can then challenge the facts and their credibility. At which point protocol generally means a link is produced, end of story.

Some ofcourse just get aggressive because the speculation does not support their own desires, and instead of asking for a link get abusive or start offering to bet with no intention of honouring it

The only thing worse than being spoken of is not being spoken of. We are doing Button a service by bumping his thread as ALL his fans seemed to have disappeared this season. At least they NEVER seem to post on his thread AT ALL

Anyway dont worry all, the end is in sight, McLaren may be coming to their senses and letting him go onto bigger and better things. Maybe fan power will have helped McLaren make this momentous decision.

Then all Button bashing will stop forever , and Mclaren can start to regain its nobility and class, especially later when fan power gets Lewis back

First of all, facts don't tell the whole story, which is why I appreciate reading what people think and how they interpret the facts.

Secondly, speculation can range from mild to wild, thus despite being based on facts, it can also support one's desires or not.

Then, we have the ability to read another person's opinion/speculation and developing your own based on the facts and taking into consideration the opinions of others, who might have an expertise you may not possess.

Most importantly is understanding that we can't all be of the same opinion and that there is nothing wrong with that!!

Jenson admits manipulation of his boss via the media

JENSON BUTTON has made it clear his Formula One future is with McLaren.

Button has admitted to being slightly mischievous with regard to his remarks last Thursday ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix when he stated there was not yet a signature from McLaren on his contract option for next year.

That immediately prompted speculation Button was in the frame for the vacant Red Bull seat, or even a move to Ferrari should they decide to get rid of Felipe Msssa.

But the 33-year-old knows he is not going anywhere as he said with a smile: "I was only winding him (team principal Martin Whitmarsh) up.

"That was very unfair of me, but I was just stating a fact (about the signature).

He likes to play those games. But maybe he misjudged things this time and has had to back track....perhaps in light of Whitmarsh saying there are things we need to sit down and talk about.

There is definetely a turning point going on at McLaren wrt Button

All the reports recently are of Button saying he will stay, and the Times speculating about an announcement to mark the 50th anniversary

From McLaren, nothing at all despite the option having a week left before they must take it. Sounds like the same hardball when they tried to cut Lewis' wage. If they were gonna resign him on same terms they would have by ow in light of the vacancies at other teams. So they are risking losing him by not confirming the extension, can only mean they don't want to extend at 12 mill a year

Could they even have another driver in the mix? would they really hang him out to dry? Is Martin still the one making the call? do they need to keep options open for possible sponsors?

Kimi wants to leave Lotus - Whitmarsh

Martin Whitmarsh believes Kimi Raikkonen is looking for a way out of Lotus at the end of this year but suspects he may not get what he is after.

The McLaren team principal also revealed that his team talked to the Finn last year about a possible driver but that, so far, it had not approached Raikkonen over 2014. Lotus is confident its star driver will stay next year, but Raikkonen has been linked to moves to both Red Bull and Ferrari over the summer.

"Obviously Kimi is determined to go somewhere else and I sense that he will not succeed in that goal, so let's see how he gets on there," Whitmarsh said when asked by the official F1 website if he would approach Raikkonen.

He added: "Kimi has always been great and I am a big fan of him. There is a lot of speculation out there at the moment, so let's see what happens.

"I probably shouldn't be, but I'm completely open - last year we had talks with him, but for various reasons it didn't happen. This year we've had no talks - yet."

However, Whitmarsh said at the weekend that he intends to give his current two drivers - Jenson Button and Sergio Perez - a better car next year , implying they will both be kept on. Raikkonen's future remains unclear after he told the media he has not talked to Red Bull for some time and has yet to decide on his future.

Well if he's your guy you should be proud to support him whatever anyone else says or thinks. When Lewis was getting it from all sides over everything, when he first started and also a couple of years ago, I just gave back as good as was given and supported him all the more.

It's only people's views, non of us really know the drivers, so if he's your guy you support him!! There's plenty of others that do, he's just not for me....as Lewis isn't everyone's cup of tea either.

It would be refreshing to have someone pointing out Buttons good deeds as they happen

He is not making many mistakes like Sergio, but then that's the least you would expect from the most experienced guy on 12 mill. I am not sure that's any reason for celebration although without his points the team would collapse. But it's not good enough to be merely competent at a team with the history of drivers of McLaren
