Hey rules are rules dude.

Dudette.

Really?? Damn I need to visit the introduction forum a bit more.

Other teams have managed to make do with the wind tunnel and available road testing and Friday tests, why not Ferrari? I'm on the side of wanting to see additional test days but if a team has a weakness, then it should be addressed. Other teams have put a lot of resources into wind tunnel and CFD computations and managed to make a fast car.

I understand that, I just don't agree with it. I think any team should have the option to use whatever means best suit their philosophy. I don't believe everything needs to be regulated by the FIA, from how to design a car, how to test it, what to use to design and test it, to what tires to use at which race.

Where is the ability to create, to develop, to build? Where is the freedom to discover a new "thing" that works? Sure, there have to be some regulations; but, really? Haven't we now gone to an extreme where all you need is a computer to replace the human input?

Sigh...

Hey rules are rules dude.

I could say I'm an awesome meth cook and nothing's wrong with meth and produce the stuff to make tonnes of cash, unfortunately it's illegal. The sport is put in place with constraints like the real world, if a team struggles to adapt, byebye. Ferrari is not bigger than the sport, never will be...it's adapt to survive (win) like everywhere else.

You're not "really" comparing manufacturing an illegal substance that has the potential to wreak havoc with the lives of people who can possibly become addicted, etc to the creative process in designing and building an F1 vehicle that is capable of winning titles? Really?

Should I be flattered or offended?

I realize its a crappy example, but its what came to my head first. (lol)

Bottom line is, it is what Formula 1 is today and everyone has to comply to the regulations to compete. Ferrari is not above the law... so if they can't compete due to their own tradition/belief/history/whatever, it doesn't make it any other teams' or F1's problem.

I didn't suggest that Ferrari was above the law; however, it's pretty obvious that looking for loopholes is the way most teams have had any success, recently. Let me ask you this: Isn't "purposely" misinterpreting rules/regulations then pleading ignorance and seeking clarity making a mockery of the system that supposedly governs all teams?

[Jabberwocky]

Actually, I do understand what the wind tunnel is!
Maybe I should have been clearer or finished my train of thought!

On-track testing can't be completely replaced by any computer programme;
however, information gained from both can be invaluable. Maybe unlimited
testing is one extreme that isn't viable; but, is depending completely on any
programme any thing less than the other extreme? We need a compromise
between the two if this sport isn't to become a "game"!

((I think that's what I mean!! ))

Maybe other teams used cfd and wind tunnels more in the past. As ferrari had 2 test tracks they could use any time they never needed to bother with them

Why do you say 'purposely ' , there is no evidence that Mercedes purposefully did anything. Before acting they sought clarification and were given it, since when the tyres have changed anyway and they missed out on the testing of the new ones, so no need to keep bringing that up. Ferrari's past is checkered with incidents where they are in bed with the FIA, hence all the jokes about the name FIA. I do think things have altered and I think Domenicali plays it straighter than some of his predecessors. I can't remember all Ferrari's indiscretions they are too numerous, the one that I find unbelievable is their secret veto on any changes. I am agog at that, because it really puts the position they were in with the FIA into complete perspective.

So accidently on purpose is in the rules?

So accidently on purpose is in the rules?

Nope. Don't know where you get that from. As I said, clarification was sought and given.

Erm, read what sagi58 wrote.

I've read what the independent tribunal said.

So accidently on purpose is in the rules?

It's in the "unwritten" section!

Hmmmmm

That wasn't meant as a jab at Mercedes, rather a reminder that we've had a number of different situations over the last few years that were about a "misinterpretation" of rules.

By the way, IF it had been "only" about Mercedes, I would have mentioned them by name.
I've seen enough respect amongst members here that I know I wouldn't have been hunted down, if I'd done so!
That is a "thank you" to everyone involved!

You are right Sagi. There have been grey areas a go go! And we're very glad to have you on this forum!
