I'd like to go back to McLaren but unfortunately the media is just so obsessed with Mercedes AMG Petronas and their boss' brilliance. What to do?

Button actually said like 2 weeks back that he expects Mercedes to be let of with a 'slap on the wrist'...so nicely predicted, that one. Even if he hoped he was dead wrong. :hehe:

Yeah, Button and the other drivers are bound to have an idea of what all these teams do when no one is looking.

I have always said that the FIA knew about it and were effectively turning a blind eye as they have done many times with other teams. And if it wasnt for Seb squealing on his fellow driver and Horner getting hormonal this would never have happened.

At least the IT appears to be a step in the right direction from the days of mad max and his flying tribunals

Button is now talking about Hamilton's surprising pace that will "shock you" all, probably because he cant be bothered about McLaren.

ESPNF1:
With three European races ahead of the enforced mid-season break, Neale admitted during a Vodafone McLaren Mercedes phone-in that the team would be likely to turn the majority of its attentions to next season unless it sees a marked improvement before the Hungarian Grand Prix.

"To some extent I think you're right [the next three races are crucial], however there are some programs on the car that we will want to run through much later in to the season which is important as a fundamental for next year as well," Neale said. "Broadly you're right; I think that we recognise that at the moment there isn't going to be a golden bullet. We are pushing hard but the reality of the situation is that there's still a big gap from us to the front of the grid."

GOLDEN bullet? Really?
Speech is silver, silence is golden, Johnny!

I really wish they'd have reverted back to last year's car now, which was undoubtedly FAST.

Hoping they focus on next year ASAP, but of course, they can still learn a lot from continued work on this car in preparation for next year, one assumes.

Mercedes felt that last year's car would have run out of development headroom by mid season. So the chose to go at it with a new car with plenty of development headroom that perhaps would have served them better going into 2014. They just got this year's car wrong and have been paying the price since the beginning of the season but whether it was last year's car or this years, the only difference for McLaren would have been a spot or two up the WCC ladder, they weren't going to be doing more than that.

It's racing folks, teams get it wrong sometimes. Williams' car was storming the midfield last year and look at them now. McLaren weren't alone in bad decisions for the 2013 season.

Thing is, if a team of people produce a car that is noncompetitive and are unable to make it so, why would we expect the same ingredients to produce a winning car the next year when regulations change and less resources were diverted to the new car way after other teams?

Its a race, and the guy who struggles to come 5th this time, who changes nothing cannot be expected to challenge the leaders the next time round.

And thats before contemplating the end of an engine deal and less help from the supplier.
