ESPNF1; Bernie Ecclestone told the BBC that holding the Bahrain Grand Prix against a backdrop of widespread opposition within the kingdom was "stupid", referring in a slightly tongue-in-cheek way to the government's decision to stage the race rather than the FIA or Formula One's to allow it to go ahead.

"The government were stupid to put this race on as it's a platform for people to use to protest," he said.

Ecclestone was asked if there were any limits to where Formula One would go, with the question being put to him if Syria paid enough would F1 go there. "They haven't got a circuit," he replied. When pressed, he said: "We'd have to have a look and see.

Bernie makes Flavio seem like a nice guy.

This made me laugh, as today on the BBC website, they quote Bernie as saying he really wants to re-sign for another 5 years.

So basically, he thinks they are stupid for holding it, but is MORE than happy to take their $$$$$ for it......

If the Bahrain Government want to pay through the nose for a GP they might not be able to host it's their problem. MrE would be stupid not to accept the cash they want to throw at him.

Well...I'd do the same as Bernie, but wouldn't turn around and call them a bunch of idiots the next minute. Even if I thought they were.

It was a good race this year, so the news that Bernie wishes to keep Bahrain on the calendar is fine by me.

So why was this race exciting? Is it because of Ferrari being unexpectedly knocked off their horse yet Alonso clawing back something from a lost race? Was is the McLarens openly dueling on and off the track? Was it the shock of seeing Nico falling down the order faster than a 400 lbs man swinging on a 200 lbs capacity hammock? Was it being the drama of DiResta trying to hold on to a podium?

A lot of things happened here, so why isn't every GP like this?

Alonso's race was ruined because of the DRS wing. I mean this is a joke. And of course nothing ever happens to Vettel. It's simply not fair. Alonso is the best driver in the world. I would like to see just how good Vettel is when things go wrong for him. Of course he is so lucky that even if something did go wrong, some miracle will happen to help him out. Simply all bulls$&@.

I think the race was exciting because of the close action non-stop BEHIND the podium positions! My heart was constantly racing!

I agree. Its not fair, but to be honest - life isnt fair. And you must admit Vettel has his share of bad-luck - broken alternator? Running out of fuel in quali? Being spun in the final race? (I cant believe Im sticking up for Vettel) I know it feels bad now - but dont worry, Alonso will come back from this, and will do better next race.

On a side note AKR, Ive just noticed where you come from. You have a beautiful Country and city. I had the pleasure of spending a week there, and in Bled, a few years ago, and it was very lovely indeed.

No I totally agree. But to openly comment on it is a bit stupid.

He's had plenty go wrong. Alonso's had spells of good luck as well though. I mean he had a team mate that crashed for him and helped him claim a win - how lucky can he get?!

It's always nice to see the good sports that are the Tiffosi.
