I this sounds a bit odd but maybe this is F1's prog rock phase. All about the show and just really up itself with a few good tunes along the way.

Can't wait for the back to basics punk phase. :hehe:

Real shame to be honest. I find myself looking out more for another sport where drivers push the limits of their cars not caring a damn, that's what edge of the seat racing is about. V8 Supercars, or GT anyone? F1 is becoming more of a drama series than racing.

Check this out. Every second is worth it right till the end, trust me. Hardly any mention of 'tyres'.

Problem is F1 cars are aero beasts and without these "FIA overtaking aids" we would have a train of cars following each other all race such as we saw 5 - 10 years ago with the only overtaking occurring in the pit stops.

Yeah I totally get open-wheelers being more restricted in close contact racing...but what was so wrong about the 2000-2005 era? Yeah, we had Ferrari dominating for 4-5 years but I see that as just the most efficient team with all the right people in the right place making the sport predictable, but the racing was still there. And you truly get to see who has the fastest car, fastest drivers after 2-3 races into the season. Right now, we have to wait at least 5 races just to get an idea about which teams have genuine title contending race cars.

I'm all for improving the show, but not to the detriment of racing and for drivers to push the limits of what they have at their disposal. The cars and engines are like A+ and meant to be pushed to the limit, but they don't even go close to it due to the B-grade rubber they are running on. But okay, we get more winners in a season and more guess work going on all the time...I guess unpredictability wins more aces over edge of the seat racing.

Not for me it doesn't. Maybe for the casual observer. I know they keep messing about with F1 but surely this tip toeing around is the worst ever!

I don't know, even in the era you talk of the FIA brought in grooved tyres. This wasn't exactly what you would consider pinnacle of open wheel racing rubber. Even in this era we barely saw on track racing, every tyre stint was merely a sprint race on low fuel brand and new tyres. A Grand Prix in its own right is meant to be some what of an endurance, conserving tyres is nothing new to F1 or Motorsport as a whole. This era we are in is just another cog on the F1 history wheel, where its even for everyone so to win the cream must still rise to the top.

You have to go a long way back to find a season where every race was exciting. Probably 1950 where records were set at every race. :hehe:

Rose tinted glasses etc etc. Fact is there has always been a mix of boring processional races and knee tremblingly exciting races.

Scotty, I'm not saying its not always been the case. I don't think anyone would argue it wasn't. In my opinion we've got ourselves a tipping point that has made it the least about racing and the most out reality television it's been in a long while.

I remember that race and it is one of the reasons I've got Flying Lizard where the favorite team goes.

The motto now is conserve to the finish not race to the finish. It does at times feel like drinking skim milk.

Why not build a 'push to the max' tyre spec which lasts at least 20-25 laps and gives maximum performance during those laps and then falls off a cliff (Basically Bridgestone spec...which turn to Pirelli poo)...so a driver is able to push the limits for at least 18 laps and then decide to come in and get some crappy tyres which we have today.

Cream generally does rise to the top, but these tyres hamper the best cars and the best drivers and make an artificially level playing field. They pander to mediocrity.

Sounds like a sprint race within a Grand Prix like it used to be tyre.

I though he looked nervous as hell. Definitely not his forte I'd say....stick to the driving Lewis, there you are king! :P

When asked about his life looking like it was all about fast cars, hot women, and champagne his reply was "that is because it is"

Which would of been so much funnier, if he didn't have to read it off the script to deliver it.

I know he is trying to get more exposure, and widening the appeal of his brand. But does delivering a wooden performance like that really help.....?
