Americans, please take this idiot back and stop him from leaving again!:whip:

Definitely a case of more money than sense... build a golf course in Kansas, there is plenty of wide open spaces available... no sea views though, unless you have some very good binoculars!

...and as an added bonus, the people in Kansas speak English almost as funny as the people in Scotland.

Yes, because people in Scotland only have one accent don't they.... (taking a joke too seriously.... :hehe: )

Aye, and we're all called Jimmy. Even the women.

If that's the case, get a few of your hairier Scotsmen friends to show up there in short kilts and the Donal may decide to scrap the whole golf course idea entirely

The funny thing is, the site of the wind farm is pretty much used as anchorage for Aberdeen Harbour and the Harbour Board have given the project their support. If I was the sort of person that would go to this rather exclusive (read any old scummy riff-raff with enough cash) galf course in the doons of Scatland I'd rather see a few wind turbines than a heap of ships belching out black smoke.

He built a galf course in the doons of north east scatland because his granny is supposedly from the west coast. Geography's clearly not a stong point then for your average American billionaire.

I never understand what people have against wind farms. I don't think they look unsightly at all.

In fact of go so far as to say, I like the look of windfarms. But maybe that's just the engineer coming out in me......?

Same here! They look like places of tranquility...and they have very nice designs! I'm only an engineer by qualification, not practice so it can't be just you. :hehe:

I would paint them the colors of rainbows. A few years ago there was a designed that wanted to make electrical towers in the shape of giant walking stick figures.

What would you rather have to look at when you're chasing a ball around the doons with your galf bats? A few wind turbines of a heap of AHTS, tankers, cargo vessels etc etc? A quick look at a map of the area reveals that Trump's galf course in the doons of Scatland is right next to the yet to be dualed section of the A90. Go figure?!

their not very tranquil places when your up close to them, sea birds aren't too keen on them either

the only problem I have with offshore wind farms is that when your sailing along at 30 knots in the dark and suddenly find yourself in amongst a unlit wind farm that's not marked on a chart it can make your brown eye twitch a little (But that's more to do with the Admiralty I think)

That's not a problem with the wind farm, it's a problem with the chart.

your right that's why I blame the Admiralty for not updating charts when planning has been approved, instead of after they are built !

it was like navigating a yacht with a a 60ft mast through a food blender with one eye shut :irked:

I like the look of them in small numbers, where I live there are 4 along a main road and I like them; however parts of the motoway going into west scotland, below glasgow, goes through one of the largest wind farms in europe. I remember when I was younger being amased at how beautiful all the hills and mountains are when going to see family up there; now it seems to be ruined.

Do they not show up on sonar?

Yes and no really, firstly you have to have one ! (On that particular yacht there wasn't anything electronic)
And the weather can have a big impact on how accurate radar is, in poor weather clouds especially clouds with rainfall look like rocks or a ship or maybe a wind farm possibly a gas rig, you have to be sure and the only way is to check the chart.

What do people think looks better, a group of wind turbines or a row of pylons? I'm inclined to go for the former I think.
