That's a bit unreasonable. I remember when I was on JSA that you could miss out of payments if you didn't attend your fortnightly meeting to tell them you still havn't found a job. I don't recall it being that strict that if you go away for a couple of days you loose a week's money. It's effectively a holiday so you wouldn't be able to work if you had a job. I'd certainly appeal that decision. Do they seriously expect you to not leave your home or put your life on hold whilst you spend ages chasing a job that 200 other people are chasing? I would say they are being pretty unreasonable.

From what I know, having spoken to others on this subject, 'they' see JSA as them paying you to search for a job 40 hours a week, and if you are not, you don't get paid.

Was too honest, should've filled in a load of crap for the missing days.

You are paid to seek for a job but (unless it's changed over the past 18 months) there was no stipulation about the hours. However, there was a minimum amount of jobs they expect you to apply for or enquire about and you have to demonstrate that you have been searching for a job by completing a diary.

Spending 40 hours a week searching for a job is pretty difficult. Heck, spending a morning searching is quite soul destroying when you keep coming up with nothing day after day.

I think a lot depends on the person you see. Some would give you the third degree and others would have your ticket signed before your backside landed on the chair. :hehe: I was lucky in that I had a fair bit saved up and my folks said they wouldn't see me stuck, but if you don't have that luxury, losing out on a weeks cash could really land you right in it! Just tell them you're from Eastern Europe and they throw money at you. You'll probably get a council house as well.

What sort of work are you looking for?

Mainly stonework but other stuff like postal/warehouse/driver jobs. Got a job now with one of the power companies and weekend stonework with a previous employer who's not really wanting to take anyone on full time.

How long have you been on JSA? I was told that after 6 months the amount I was being paid was going to be reduced. Luckily I found a job at much the same time.

Since November, it was to be stopped from the 9th jan because I went to visit my folks.

There's something not right there. I'd get yourself down to the Job Centre tomorrow morning and speak to someone about it. I can't see how they can completely stop your JSA just because you were away for a couple of days.

It made me cry, and I'm not ashamed to say it.....

JSA is bollocks. They don't understand self-employed people at all. They acted like morons when I was on it early last year.

The benefits system is a bit backwards at times and rather frustrating.

Very true

I've just realised that I haven't lowered the tone of the forum today like I did yesterday and on Tuesday. :(

Go for it.
