we are the stronger team - and we intend to beat him next year!

Is Whitmarsh saying he thinks Mclaren will be racing against Merc next year or that he just wants to rub Hamiltons nose in it?

It's a silly statement to make either way; as a team, they should be aiming to beat everyone, even more so with a team like McLaren!

This is just the same as the Vettel to Ferrari stories. MW is just trying to make Mercedes think that Lewis is getting cold feet and putting a bit of doubt into it all. It is all a game.

Lets face it whenever you change jobs in real life you have a bit of trepidation.

I can't help but think that this encapsulates it well. Have fun, guess which one is Lewis, Martin and Ross :hehe:

Let's face it, current McLaren crew, except Sam Michael and a couple of others is C.R.A.P. Just compare them with other top teams like Red Bull, Ferrari, Mercedes or Lotus. They are just not on the same level. That's what Hamilton will benefit the most by joining Mercedes. And, personally, I am glad to see him leave. It's just when that moment comes, and you know that it was enough and that you need a change. I support his move all the way. And I know he'll have great results in that car too. Don't forget, he is one of the 6 world champions. ;)

Amen, Vlad. It appears McLaren are the only sour ones over "The Decision." Never thought I would see the day when McLaren would be so sub-par...in performance, and attitude. This is a new low. I was tempted to say all-time low but 2013 is in the offing. The worst thing McLaren can do is talk down to Lewis and Mercedes. Look what Lewis did to Jenson after Jenson went slithering around in the press last year. Lewis came back with all of last year's off-track baggage and personal strife gone...blistered his team-mate in qualifying and races. Martin claims Lewis will regret leaving? Martin is going to regret Lewis leaving on his watch. Just wait until he realizes he has no one who knows how to properly set up a qualifying and race car so that it has grip. Oh dear!

I'm just saying...

Vettel avoids internet stuff, and that is very wise. IMO, Lewis is only doing himself harm with all the Twitter nonsense...

He does seem to be a very private person doesn't he? Very much like Micahel Schumacher - his private life has been kept very private.

Vlad...you think Sam MIchael is an asset to the team?

In case you missed it, he was pushed out of a midfield team called Williams...

After the most disastrous season the team ever had; McLaren definitely seem to have taken a major step backward this season, particularly on the reliability front!

I reckon Lewis has actually gained more fans and supporters out of this than McLaren have gained any reputation

To start acting like the jilted teenager with snide comments shows how low McLaren have sunk, it also shows the mindset within the management that thinks that being 'disturbingly good looking' is an attribute that dictates where resources are focused in a racing team.

Mind bogglingly petty throwing the gauntlet (handbag) to Lewis and Mercedes (their Engine and Kers supplier)

I wonder if loyal McLaren fans are still insisting that there is nothing wrong with McLaren and that they have any chance of avoiding Williams fate

You lot get your panties in a twist over every little thing it's rather amusing reading your crap. :whip:

How is it any different to a football player switching teams and both parties wanting to beat each other? Sometimes I think you lot forget this is a sport, a competition, there are no guarantees.

Your auto signature says Lewis fan. I thought you were a mclaren fan? Personally I would stick to mclaren as they as a team are a big and successful team second only to one other. Lewis is just a driver who won't b in the sport forever. Mclaren on the other hand could well be. :-)

AKR! where have you been hiding? So what do you think of Lewis' move? I have to buy new F1 clothes for next year. I've been looking but the new season ones aren't out yet. Sad about Mclaren, but I'm going with Lewis.

Bud is a staunch Mclaren fan. His sig is a reference to some of the fallout on the forum since Lewis announced his move.

A fan that doesn't question a bone head move by a driver is a lamb but a fan that doesn't question a bonehead move by a team isn't? Infallibility does not exist in the sport.

Nice to see you back AKR. I think we can enjoy things in the sport both long and short term. After all, anyone that's been a fan of Bernie has been a fan just as long as any tifosi.
