Thailand is on target to join the Formula 1 calendar from the 2014 season onwards, officials in the country have stated. The Bangkok Post reports that the Governor of Thailand's Sports Authority, Kanokphand Chulakasem, met with Bernie Ecclestone during the Singapore Grand Prix weekend and agreed a deal in principal.

Although circuit details and annual hosting fees are yet to be confirmed, the event is set to be hosted on the streets of Bangkok and become the sport's second night race.

"It will be a city race like that in Singapore and Monaco," Chulakasem is quoted as saying by the daily newspaper. "It will be a night race like the Singapore Grand Prix."

Red Bull has previously backed plans for a race in Thailand, with its foundations stemming from the country. Mark Webber completed a demonstration run in the capital city of Bangkok back in 2010, which can be viewed at GPUpdateTV.

Not another :censored: street race... Singapore is unique and has proved to be a good race, but with a street race coming in New Jersey and now this supposed street track in Bangkok it's to much, which also begs the question of which of the existing tracks will disappear, Russia is also supposed to be joining the calendar in 2014...

Ahh Thailand my 2nd home! I lived there for 6 years and it will be great for an F1 race to take place there.....but yeah, NOT a street race! Monaco and Singapore are more than enough and Valencia should've been scrapped the year it made its debut.

Aye, maybe Hungry to go, wouldn't miss that track too much, the other races all seem to be either in good health, or are good tracks for the fans, maybe Australia might end up missing out,

I hope not, Korea have a good technology and car manufacturing sector, suitable for F1 sponsors, plus a young and rich population for consumers who have shown a tendency to take up interests in new sports (football and basketball). It's also not a pretty good race circuit I think.

If Jenson Button parks his car in the wrong place there (like he did in Monaco '09) then he'll have one hell of a job finding his way to the podium! :P

"Button given a 5 place grid penalty for taking Exit 455 instead of Off ramp 332."
