Button claims first pole since Monaco, 2009 at Spa-Francorchamps

McLaren’s Jenson Button claimed pole at Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium, his first since Monaco, 2009 in his world championship year at Brawn. Button set three separate lap-times quick enough to take pole position, once in Q2, setting a time of 1:47.654, then set a time of 1:47.686 in Q3, only to go faster later in the session, setting a time of 1:47.573 to take pole by 0.298 seconds from Sauber’s Kamui Kobayashi and 0.320 seconds ahead of Williams’ crash-meister Pastor Maldonado.

Button wins in Spa after escaping first corner melee!

After breaking his 60 race pole position duck in Spa qualifying, McLaren’s Jenson Button continued his domination of the 2012 Belgian Grand Prix with a lights to flag victory; 13 seconds ahead of Red Bull’s current world champion Sebastian Vettel and 25 seconds ahead of Lotus’ Kimi Raikkonen. All three drivers managing to avoid the first corner melee caused by Lotus’ Romain Grosjean squeezing and tagging Lewis Hamilton; the pair of them careering into championship leader Fernando Alonso’s Ferrari and fifth placed starter Sergio Perez’ Sauber, all four drivers instantly out of the race.

McLaren lockout front row in Ferrari’s backyard!

McLaren duo Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button have locked out the front row for tomorrow’s Italian Grand Prix while Ferrari’s lead driver Fernando Alonso toils down in 10th place after a rear roll-bar failure in the final qualifying session after topping both Q1 and Q2 timesheets. However, team mate Felipe Massa qualified his Ferrari on the second row behind pole-sitter Hamilton.

Lewis Hamilton wins in Monza as “Checo” storms to second!

Lewis Hamilton put the disappointment of the Belgian Grand Prix behind him by winning the Italian Grand Prix at Monza in front of the Tifosi. Sauber’s Sergio “Checo” Perez drove an amazing race to come home in second place from 12th on the grid; overtaking both Ferrari’s along the way. But the net winner of this race is Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso, who extended his World championship lead to 37 points with Sebastian Vettel, Mark Webber and Jenson Button all retiring from the race.

Are the rumours true? Lewis Hamilton moving to Brackley for 2013?

Ever seen BBC pundit and former team owner Eddie Jordan broke the news that Lewis Hamilton had signed a three year deal with Mercedes starting next season last week; I’ve heard so much commentary from just about everyone about the Briton’s rumoured move to Brackley, while Hamilton, Mercedes and McLaren all deny any deal has been done. From a personal standpoint, I hope that the rumours are true and he parts company with McLaren, I’m sick and tired of hearing how Hamilton is a can-do-no-wrong God while putting down Jenson Button at every opportunity!

Hamilton beats Maldonado to pole by half second in Singapore

McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton took pole position at Marina Bay, Singapore alongside crash-kid Pastor Maldonado, who hasn’t scored a point since his victory all the way back in May at Catalunya. Sebastian Vettel could only manage third place, actually setting a time slower than his Q2 time while Jenson Button will have to settle for fourth place, almost six tenths slower than Hamilton in an identical car, but being behind Maldonado may well be his saving grace going into turn one!

Vettel wins as Hamilton suffers from a box of neutrals in Singapore

Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel took victory at a time limited Singapore Grand Prix as Lewis Hamilton suffered from a gearbox failure while leading the race on lap 23. McLaren team mate Jenson Button inherited second place, briefly challenged with a handful of fastest laps but couldn’t manage to keep closing the gap on Vettel. Ferrari’s Mr dependable, Fernando Alonso came home in third place to protect his world championship lead, claiming his eighth podium finish of the season.

Eddie Jordan was correct: Hamilton signs three year Mercedes contract!

All the speculation surrounding Lewis Hamilton’s future has ended with the Briton signing a three year contract with AMG Mercedes as BBC pundit and former team owner Eddie Jordan predicted a few weeks ago. But the more exciting prospect for me is the news that Sauber’s Sergio Perez will be moving to McLaren for 2013; I can’t find any information about the length of Perez’ contract, but I suspect it might be one year with an option of additional years based upon performance.

Red Bull dominate Japanese Grand Prix qualifying

Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel delivered on his practice promise setting a time of 1:30.839; just over 1/4 of a second ahead of team mate Mark Webber and just under half second ahead of McLaren’s Jenson Button, who will start from eighth place after being demoted five places for a gearbox change, but will still start ahead of McLaren team mate Lewis Hamilton who had a dismal qualifying session; struggling to find a good car balance, the ‘no grip’ shoe is on the other foot in Japan.

Vettel wins Japanese GP to become first back to back winner in 2012!

Fernando Alonso’s world drivers championship lead has been slashed to just four points as Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel capitalised on Alonso’s retirement by winning the Japanese GP in dominant fashion; his nearest rival, Felipe Massa finishing the race 20 seconds behind. Outside the championship race, driver of the day was Sauber’s Kamui Kobayashi, who finished the race on the podium in front of his adoring Japanese crowd, holding off Jenson Button in the closing laps!

Mark Webber shows his Aussie Grit to claim pole in Korea

Mark Webber claimed his first pole position of the season (on merit), setting his pole time without setting a single purple sector in his lap. The Aussie took pole by just 0.074 seconds from Sebastian Vettel, the German claiming that his lap was compromised by Felipe Massa at the end of his warm up lap. Lewis Hamilton put his McLaren on the second row behind Vettel on the grid and alongside championship leader Fernando Alonso, who qualified his Ferrari on the second row only 0.292 second behind pole sitter, Webber; Ferrari seem to have some extra pace this weekend!

Vettel wins Korean Grand Prix to snatch WDC lead from Alonso!

Fernando Alonso lost the lead in the world drivers championship after two DNF’s in Spa, Belgium and Suzuka, Japan while finishing third at the Korean Grand Prix behind the Red Bull’s of Mark Webber and race winner Sebastian Vettel; who now holds a 6 point lead over the Spaniard going into the last four races of the season. Unless Ferrari have some big improvements coming; I honestly don’t see Alonso regaining the lead from the German; baring any Red Bull mechanical failures, I firmly believe that this is Vettel’s/Red Bull’s championships to lose at this point!
