I have a strong hunch Ferrari are going to struggle here. Looking at their recent history on tracks where traction is king, they just can't match the likes of McLaren, Lotus and Redbull. Hope Merc get in the mix as well in qualifying at least.

Ferrari has struggled just about everywhere this season; you have to judge the Ferrari's performance on Massa's drives, Alonso makes the difference between seventh place and a win. I was never much of a fan of Alonso during his world championship, McLaren and Renault years but he has gone up massively in my estimation since joining Ferrari, maybe not his first year of tantrums and tiaras.

Do you really believe that. No driver can 'carry' a car, the Ferrari started off the season as a dog but improved massively since Barcelona. Alonso has been selling himself very well with his 'we are still very slow' stories in every race weekend, but the car has been a podium contender at least for many races now. And yes, Alonso makes a difference but between 7th and a win? He's no driving God, he's a top 3 driver who is in the form of his life thus has a comfortable WDC lead at current.

Top two I'd say.

I don't know...I think Vettel has proven himself a bit more this year, he's a fighter when he starts in the midfield like what he showed in Spa. He can qualify well, untouchable when starting in front and it seems he can claw his way back to a good position using his speed and tenacity....in equal cars he will definitely give Lewis and Fonzo a run for their money. IMHO. :)

I'd very much like to see that. I've enjoyed his drive a lot more this year than last, but he's not out driving his team mate, and half of the come from behind results have been due to tire choices or having competitive cars out of the field. If he's able to defend his WDC this year, then his future is sealed, if not then he's the guy Alonso was talking about when they had a good car.

I don't think there would have been many drivers on the grid that would have won Malaysia the way Alonso did, with that car.

I believe that a driver can get more out of a car than his team mate, that is what Alonso has done, would most drivers have claimed wins in the 2012 Ferrari? The Ferrari is certainly a much better car now than it was at the start of the season, no-one can dispute that fact, but it's not a race winning car in the hands of an 'ordinary' driver, Alonso puts in the laps while the sun shines and that sometimes is enough to hold onto the lead and win the race, other times it is not, either way his driving talent is what put him at the top of the pile, more than having a stellar car!

It's all relative, depends on how his teammate is doing...the reality is most likely that his teammate was simply crap for the most part of this season. Don't forget, even Button was lapped by his teammate in a race winning car just because of some lack of understanding on how the tyres work. The Ferrari has been in contention for podiums/victories since Barcelona, and Alonso has gotten the most out of it...which is what is expected of a damn good driver. Plus a combination of his ultra reliable car/team work, while their main competitors have screwed up time and time again.

Alonso has clearly demonstrated he can take a dog of a car into a podium finish, and at worst, a top ten. And has done so consistently throughout his career.

Wow really. Where was his Minardi in his rookie year, and those years at Renault (post McLaren) apart from an illegal win in Singapore?

The fact is no one can outperform their car. My point is that ALonso is making a show of how terrible his car is (it really isn't a bad car anymore) and selling himself as some kind of phenomenon who can perform miracles, its great for his market value but he's simply misleading the general public. Kudos to him for doing it successfully I say.

True that. He is one of the few drivers I can think of who can get a car into a position it doesn't deserve.

Can't believe I just complimented Alonso. :yikes:
