Vettel was coming to 2nd anyway, was faster on those tires.

Totally disagree. He had been close to Hamilton before the SC but just couldnt get close enough and pass LH, even with 2xDRS zones (just as LH couldnt get past SV after the SC).

So I thin LH could of held SV off, without the SC.

Exactly, Lewis would have had the advantage of the undercut, and he even managed to stay relatively close behind Seb after the SC, and Seb was even in cleaner air due to Jenson pulling away.

It's part of F1 and part of racing. Why muck around with the SC now? Just because the leader loses his advantage? It's been happening for years, and lots of strategy is built around possibilities of SC, screwing with this will just water down the sport that bit more.

Sorry, I just don't accept that. There are better ways to do things, especially with the wide implementation of technology. There would have been no way for F1 to do something like this in the 60's, but now it would be trivial (much easier to manage than DRS, for example).

Yeah but WHY do you want to lessen the excitement? It's about the show, and making the show as thrilling as possible...less about fairness. You take away one of the key thrills in F1, if let's say we see the leader getting a 10-15 second advantage, you might as well shut off the TV since he can pretty much never be caught unless there's a reliability issue (which in these days is super rare anyway).

I guess that's where we fundamentally disagree. I'd say it's about finding the best driver+car. The "show" comes from that. If you'd shut off the TV because the leader is running away with it, I'd say you're probably missing a bunch of other good battles behind him. Just look at last year.

Hamilton could have overtaken him when the SC came in, fact is he wasn't fast enough and Button was, maybe he was fuel saving or just didn't have the pace.

Seb would have stayed out a few more laps if it were not for the SC. He was closing in very fast since LH rears were going out. He would have made up the time and come out ahead of LH after pitting without the SC anyways.

The casual fan cares more about the show and less about the drivers and cars.

If FOM can get those casual fans in, maybe they can keep them and further increase their viewership.

If you want to apply 'fairness' into a season as a whole, Jacques Villenueve, Fernando Alonso, Jenson Button and Kimi Raikkonen won't be Champions now. :hehe:

Pretty crazy statement, but do the 'alternative WDC season' for each of the years these drivers became WDCs and you see why.

So who cares about fairness? We want to be thrilled during a GP, and the SC is a key ingredient for it.

I'm not sure about Kimi this race, he had the pace of people around him but he didn't make much of an impression, seemed more gifted that position by all the people crashing or retiring around him. He didn't seem to overtake anyone unless their tyres were off and let Koby past on the restart after the SC.

Maybe the car just isn't that fast on race on race pace, maybe it cannot heat it's tyres up as fast and that is why Kimi went 20 laps on the Yellow tyres when no one else could or maybe it was just him and Gro would have done a better job.

Either way I look forward to see if he delivers in the next race.

He overtook 3 cars on the last lap, what more do you want.

Safety car was needed, it just felt like the SC was out there a couple laps too long, It did take a while for the lapped runners to get thru the pack

Fantastic race! Really enjoyable!

Button had a flawless drive. The McLaren this year looks 100 times more sexy than 2011. I'm happy with Lewis' pace - a solid result.

I have to say I got a bit emotional watching Maldonado battling with Alonso. That livery brought me back to 1996 all over again. Same with Senna - I'm still getting used to seeing that helmet driving a Williams! I'm hoping that the Williams team of old is back and will be competitive throughout the year. If they can finish above Lotus I'll be over the moon.
