So... i am afraid i don't quite see your issue. As others said Hamilton can just go his own setup route if he so chooses, but maybe Button is just better at outright car setup. Maybe. There is no way of quantifying a statement either way from our position, but that is what is suggested. There is no way a team (or driver) worth their salt would compromise themselves, so that is surely the case, ie Hamilton is still happy enough to go along with it and doesn't find it to any detriment in his own performance. Although remember the last time the McLaren guys quite blatantly went different setup routes at Monza 2010. Button gave himself a much quicker car then.
It's an interesting article, despite some poor points ie 'oversteer' guys having a huge advantage at Monaco, yet Kubica prefers understeer... and he has PROVEN to be pretty damn good, to put it mildly, around street circuits. But then it was written by Mark Hughes.
