I hate the idea of ballast in cars; really isn't the solution in Formula 1!

My solution for better racing:

1. Lower wider cars.
2. Less reliance of Aero, more reliance on mechanical grip.
3. Less powerful brakes to increase braking distances (to increase out-braking opportunities).
4. No tyre restrictions, bring back qualifying tyres, and definitely no forced tyre compound changes!
5. Bring back refuelling.

In simple terms, take a step back in time, overregulation is what has caused the current situation, and the FIA's solution is artificial overtaking aids.

Personally, I hate the idea of limiting anything on the car, but I realize it's somewhat necessary for safety and cost control. In my opinion, those are the ONLY two reasons that should be used to regulate anything on an F1 car. In other words, don't try to form the cars based on what you think F1 should be - open up the rules as much as possible, and let the engineers determine that. That's why I love prototype racing so much, and I suspect F1 was like that prior to the mid-2000's.

It's a non technological solution to the problem, the biggest problem in F1 is that aero grip is so super efficient that a car can not follow close enough behind to make overtakes stick, hence we end up with the situation we find with Massa/Hamilton, drivers having to make desperate lunges. Having less powerful brakes will increase braking distances providing greater opportunities to out-brake opponents. I would also like to see engines deregulated; let them have whatever they want as long as it complies with maximum power output regulations.

I agree with all of these points, (except maybe the first point as i don't understand how it helps) and i'd also add smaller front wings, pre-2008 sized. I'd probably even go as far as maybe making it manual gearbox. But first and foremost the stupid lights and beeps telling a driver when to change gear need to go

GP2 has the best racing out of anything, wouldn't hurt to learn a few things from them

Lower wider cars; create less turbulent air making it easier to follow close behind, over the years, cars have got narrower and taller (mainly through FIA regulation change), Not so sure about fully manual gearboxes, maybe revert to old school, H-Gate semi-auto gear-change, that'll spice up racing, if a driver misses a gear or hits fourth instead of second, that'll cause some position changes!

Ahhh i get it, yeah i guess that would help then. Anything that makes the driver more important would be better to be honest, then you'd really be able to see who the best drivers are

Rather than the ballast idea I would simply say the Top 10 finishers in any race qualify in the last 10 positions at the next race to be determined on their respective paces in that qualifying session.

Obviously you have to make sure there is no advantages to sitting out qualifying altogether as seems to be the case at the moment.

The most exciting Grand Prix I have seen in the past 10 years was the 2005 Japanese Grand Prix where all of Schumacher, Alonso, Raikonnen and Montoya qualified at the back of the field.

Yep. Guys of out position always adds a HUGE dimension of intrigue i think. Sooo... my idea would be to bring back 1 lap quali but have the top finishers from the last race go first on the dirtier track to cause a few problems for em. But that said this idea, although effective on paper at mixing things up, wouldn't ever happen cause of tv and the fact that most people would just turn off quali once the top guys have gone. I can always dream...

Why should those who are better be punished for being good? It's like DRS. That would also ruin all records for qually.

It's interesting that the main reason for DRS was to help with overtaking, but the one person that they hope to see get overtaken is not easy to catch.

The current system is fine, they just need unlimited tyres for it / quali tyres, so there's no opting to stay in the garage.

Yeah it makes sense to me. There's just too much worrying about amounts of tyres these days, and the really good qualifying FORMAT we have is being seriously compromised...

The qualifying format is total . They should go back to the days of a 1 hour session, maximum of 12 laps per driver and they can do what they like with the tyres. It's all too much like a round from the Generation Game these days.
