He should count himself fortunate still to have four limbs. In that one photo, I learned more about the extent of his injuries -- from the scars, the distention about the forearm and the edema still evident in his hand -- than from all the press communiques of the previous several months. I should be quite surprised -- nay, shocked -- to see him back in F1 this season.

Kubica is up there in that group with Vettel, Alonso and Hamilton IMO. Even if he misses the first few races of 2012, Lotus will put him right back in once he is good and ready! Just means Senna/Grosjean get more of a chance to prove themselves to the F1 world

Ah, good ol' Bobby Kubica (as David Hobbs called him). He would've been a contender. The doctors have been amazing indeed, no doubt helped by Robert's awesome physical condition.

I wish that he can find a way to come back to F1, or at least to some other racing. Le Mans? That would be neat.

Good to see he is going well...Let's look forward to see how he performs in the car this year in FP's.

On a side note: What do you all think about future F1 drivers contacts that contains a clause that doesn't allow high risk activities for drivers? Too limiting? A deterrent for fast drivers to be recruited into the team?

New word now that he's at least a few months away from getting in a cockpit according to the doctor. Renault has extended its deadline.
Sadly I will guess there will either no return at all or a short lived unsuccessful return. Most drivers who had serious injuries did one of the 2.
Namely Wendlinger, Piquet Sr., Nannini, Pironi, Purley, Lehto, I don't know who else. Lauda is a glaring exception. But even he was unable to race at times, and even as he was winning, he was itching to quit.
Even if Robert eventually recovers to the point where no one can tell there was ever an injury(not likely) there will have been a lot of time away and F1 will have passed him by. I fear it has already happened. You come back to a car that the TRs have changed so much you don't recognize it. ANd all the while there are umpteen capable candidates, new ones popping in all the time, for a finite number of seats.

Mika came back. But I agree that sadly its looking unlikedly that Kubica will.
