I bought some more fishies yesterday, a Siamese Fighting fish, 2 angel fish, and 4 Guppies.

I've got 3 tanks right now, all fully planted:

1) 26 Gal: 1x breeding pair of German blue rams, 12x Neon tetra, 8x Black neon tetra

2) 36 Gal: 1x breeding pair 'peruvian altum' angelfish, 10x Harlequin rasbora 2x Corydoras sterbai

3) 200 Gal: ~10x 'peruvian altum' angelfish, ~15x lemon tetra, ~15x serpae tetra, 6x clown loaches and 2x Firemouth cichlid (will rehome as they are messing up my substrate).

i only have some old pics of the 200G, but hopefully i'll get some nice pics of the others... since then, i've removed all the non-altum angels plus some other fish and changed the scape....... its not too easy to photograph these tanks.......

A fighter male with 2 females in the same tank? I love these fishes but I thought they are strictly loners?

And how do you determine which is male and female though...colours? I'm very interested to see how they can fit together in the same tank, very beautiful fishes.

All my fish are dying checked the water and the Nitrates are through the roof. lost 3 Platys and a Guppy so far..... the next 48 hours are crucial.

Also the new fishies I bought have intoduced white spot

Sorry to note mate. I'm quite familiar with the white spot issue, try and get this special medicine made in Germany..takes car of it fast. Its a very dark blue liquid, you put 15 drops for a 6 gallon tank if I'm not mistaken. Let me know if you need more details, I can give you the brand name when I'm home.

Used to get it years ago.Haven't had it since heaters got more reliable.Normally bought on by sudden changes in temperature.As said easy to cure if spotted early enough.
Got a tank full of lake malawi chichlids in my main tank now.they look awesome but are waspy little gits .Got a crowned tailed siamese fighter with a couple of females in a small tank,they're right charecters,feed out of my hand.

when you start a tank NEVER load it fully right away. Unless its heavily planted.

Most likely its not your Nitrates off the roof but rather Ammonia... its pretty much poison

To help pretty much ALL your situation rush and get a filter media called Zeo-carb, it contains ammonia-remover and activated carbon; for the first week or so dont introduce too many fish and feed on the light side..... you can do a ~30% water change like 2x week. Until you get your cycle going, about 2 weeks on, depending on temperature.

The white spot disease (ich) is almost always due to the stress from the ammonia and/or sudden change of water conditions. To help with ich, you may raise your temp to about 84F (as well as not allowing for any ammonia to build up).

The blue med is called methylene blue, you can buy it at any censored but it will destroy your cycle and if you had ammonia issues to begin with, it will only make things worse. The best way to use meth blue is to use a small tank with water from the main tank and an air pump for oxygen, dose meth blue to this tank, take the ill fish out and put him in there for a couple days; or you can do a stronger meth blue solution and put your fish for only a few hours.... then send him back to your main tank

I used to have a tank with Malawi cichlids, but they are terrible to plants so i moved on to Amazon fish........ Malawis are very pretty and nice when young, as they grow the males will kill almost anything alive in the tank.

wow not looked in this thread for a while.

I am new to the whole tropical fish keeping thing, so still learning. I got ride of the white spot, I used the API branded one IIRC.

Since then I have had a problem with a bullying Angel fish (it is still going on, but to less a degree)

I have also added 4 Angels and a Silver Shark.



so the tank now has:-

4 Platies (3x Blue Tux)
0 Guppies (they all went in the great spike)
6 Angels
1 Fighter
1 Shark

I got the 4 extra Angels as the man in the shop said that they should be kept in a 6 as a minimum to try and stop the bullying, it helped a bit.

The Silver Shark has just scare the bad boy Angel, plus it looks cool.

as for the plants I have some in there, I got 2 different types one seems to have lived quite well the other one just seemed to get torn to pieces.

I thought that a Fighter would also beat the poo out of the females as well I am sure I read that somewhere?

The females are nothing like the males to look at mate, they do not have the massive tails or anything and they are quite drab colours

Thats what I thought until I see the ones I have now.Mine are very nice red and blue colour,will try getting picture later.Then again I hadn't seen a crown tailed one until I found this one.

Ok on the angel front,they are after all a cichlid,cichlids are very aggresive fish.You will often find bullying with them its natural for them.To cut it down a bit it is probably best to have a group of about 6(as long as your tank is big enough).If you have 2-4 you will probably get 1 or 2 that dominate.With the extra in there it should cut down the bullying,it will never totaly go because of the nature of the fish.
It's normally best to keep cichlids on their own,angels can be very aggresive towards other fish as well,when they grow if you have small fish in there they will eat them.You may even find they will attack the siamese when they grow as well.

I had one that looked just like that one you're referring to. Named Titan, for his long life with me. (around 18 months)

Look like a short tailed male,maroon colour body with red fins with aqua tips to them.Not as nice as the male but not too far behind.One day i will suss my new phone lol

The Fighter has lost most of its tail in when the no feeding part of the spike was on due to the angels, they also ate the tails off of the Guppies which caused 2 of them to die (swiming with no tail just exhausted them)

Oh I forgot to mention the 4 Guarmis (spl) in the tank too, 2 male, 2 female. they just keep themselves to themselves really.

Last I was checking her and found a tiny bit of what looked like dry blood on her upper left lip so I opened her mouth and found what looks to be a bite wound on her tongue. So that explains her strange noise so I'm assuming she and one of the strays and her had a disagreement othr thanthat she is ok.

Angles are territorial and hierarchical... they would rarely kill eachother if the tank is big enough or they are not breeding.

You can keep angels in a good enough sized tank with other tropicals which would not fit in their mouth, are fast enough to run from them and would not nip at their fins. Also, you gotta have a good filter with angels because you have to feed them well, and they eat a lot.

Currently I have 2 sucker fishes in my tank and thats it. I had 2 silver sharks and 2 patins, and all 4 had committed suicide (jumped out of tank). This weekend I'm off to get some fish that aren't powerful enough to imitate dolphins. Suggestions most welcome. No goldfish...I hate goldfish.

Oh..and I have a 7 (estimate) gallon tank. Nothing fancy.
