Seems according to the news that the US has fired the first missiles and libyan anti-air defences. Oh dear.

Cameron confirms British troops are active in Libya too.

What is the point in Nato when only France, US and UK want to enforce it the rest dont, and we do it anyway!

French plane has launched the first attack against a military vehicle.

And a fighter plane, its country unknown still, has been shot down over benghazi.

S*it it hitting the fan now.

Is it? I'd say supporting an ongoing mass revolution (mainly with military power) is different.

Let's be serious, revolutions are always influenced and pushed by the third side...

And hopefully something that can be resolved much more quickly and easily. Hopefully.

To be honest, I'm glad they've finally got their act together - for a while there I was worried that the international community would procrastinate until all the 'rebels' had been killed and the population thoroughly repressed.

Throughout the centuries popular revolutions against tyranny and oppression have resulted in the spilling of enormous amounts of blood. Intervening in support of one side or another is clearly a moral and ethical minefield. But surely it is worse to stand aside and let a deranged dictator use deadly force against his own people just because they've decided that they don't want him to control them any more?

And where did that dictator get his weapons from? And what about all the other opressed countries in the world? Wouldnt be anything to do with oil would it?

The biggest argument for this ^ is,

We do-gooder western nations are so devout to bringing democracy, yet we wont even touch north korea? Not a word to it.

Then again the US went to Vietnam, adn the only reason for that is democracy, so........

My biggest concern is, is it our problem, or our business?

He clearly got his money though oil.

But the military situation here is clearly different, the rebels formed quite a solid, stable base. The situation looks a lot easier to solve, like Scotty said,Gaddafi seems insane right now, and completely unable to let go.

Crucially, its clear the people of Lybia have had the key role here, going in with a foreign force against the many dictators of the world seems to just throw up more problems that it solves - at least going in without completely taking over the country.

Aren't North Korea within striking distance of Seoul, their military and Nuclear capability are also threatening.

Sorry for going off topic though, probably best to drop North Korea,

I think its a good idea. I'd rather have the UN get involved instead of abandoning these people and have them turn to terrorist groups for aid.

Gaddafi has said he's not going down without a bloody big fight...

Because it hasn't been big or bloody enough yet? :yikes:

The puzzling thing about the prevailing Arabic culture and the Muslim religion is their intolerance of any external and specifically western influence, yet they will turn a blind eye to their own sectarian violence regardless of how bloody or ruthless a manifestation it becomes.
