I'm torn really, Alonso has his unsportsmanlike moments like many drivers and the incident with Petrov was one of them, but that said I can imagine the frustration after losing the title because he couldn't get past Petrov, should Alonso have taken some risks to make it happen? YES, he needed to make a move or lose the championship, he elected to sit behind and lose the championship, he had nothing to lose really, if he crashed out making a move, he's still lost the championship! I can understand Alonso's gestures in the heat of the moment, but as far as I know, there has been no apology to Petrov after the fact, that's what a sportsman is to me; admitting he is wrong, even after the fact!

Last I checked cars and steering wheels are inanimate and you can be as pissed off and frustrated with them as you want.

Alonso also should have issued an apology to Petrov (he did mention it in the post race press conference, but it was not an apology). I personally don't care if he congratulates Vettel, but I would think that should be something that every driver on the grid does just out of sportsmanship, is drop a line in some manner congratulating their competitor on beating them in a very tough fight. His love letter to Ferrari does not count for either of these points, so not sure why you brought it up?

And I have taken off my Alonso-Hate goggles before making this post. Perhaps you can take off your Fernando-Love goggles before replying.

The tifosi support Ferrari first and foremost, drivers come and go. Get with the program... goggles?!?! It's Ferrari, this is more like it.

Toro Rosso's line-up for 2011 is under the spotlight despite it having signed youngsters Sebastien Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari to continue for it.

But after the leading driver of Red Bull's current crop of up-and-comers - Australian Daniel Ricciardo - so impressed with his pace in the RB6 in Abu Dhabi last week, the rumours have again started.

Ricciardo's programme for 2011 has not yet been decided, but neither Ricciardo nor his boss Dr Helmut Marko are ruling out a move into Formula One.

"We pushed Bernoldi, Klien, Liuzzi and Speed without a breakthrough," Marko said. "Daniel Ricciardo is the next top talent. A new Vettel? I don't know."

Next year, Ricciardo - Red Bull's F1 reserve in 2010 and second in the Renault World Series - might have a chance to prove himself. When asked to assess the progress of Buemi and Alguersuari in 2010, Toro Rosso team boss Franz Tost hinted that the 22-year-old Buemi has now had enough time to prove whether he belongs in F1.

"At the beginning of the season he scored points and had a really good level of performance. But at the end of the season he struggled a bit," Tost said, adding Alguersuari improved "step by step" and was "on the correct path".

When asked about driver continuity for 2011, Tost continued: "Well, you never know what will happen in Formula One. Our main priority is building a successful car. Regarding drivers and continuity, we will see."

I think this would a good move, but Torro Rosso really need to make an effort next year. They need to be regular points finishers. I'm sick of watching them turn up and put in a half-arsed effort.

Ricciardo will do well. As per my article on the front page, the Red Bull Junior Academy have got rid of all the average drivers and have only kept the best. So I figure that drivers who come out of the academy now won't be the next Tonio Liuzzi, but are the cream of the crop.

I've already said, these sorts of reactions are genuine "heat of the moment" things, they are not right but they are understandable. I mean, its not a cold calculated lie repeated after the event or anything like that.

The fact is, when Alonso was asked after the race specifically about it, he went out of his way to praise Petrov, he even said he drove very well. Of course, haters will find something wrong with that as well. The fact is Petrov said in his post race interview when asked specifically about the hand waving "anybody would have felt frustration when losing the world title like that” & “its racing”. Again that's not an excuse, it putting things into the right perspective. But of course, haters will ignore this.

It's good if you can take your Fernando-hating goggles off, well done. Everyone knows I'm a Ferrari fan first and foremost. We support all our team as a whole. If you read my original post, you will see that, in respect of driver, I wear "All drivers" appreciation goggles. They put out for my entertainment and enjoyment every time they get in their cars and I appreciate them all.

Being frustrated because he lost the title is still no reason to have a go at Petrov, I mean what did he do wrong? Nothing, exactly his return gesture to Fern as to say "what's your problem I'm racing here"

As I said earlier, for those who hate Fernando, they will continue hating him no matter. No amount of facts or statements will change them. They will continue to find and focus only on whatever thing, no matter how small it is to fuel their hatred.

I know it is totally futile to point this out to you, but, we all know it wasn't good what he did - him included. But, put it in perspective. Remember what he said in the very first opportunity he had to speak after the race - he said of Petrov "He drove very well". I'm sure you'll find some way to make those words inadequate or to be dismissed, but irrespective, he went out of his way to compliment the guy. I don't want our drivers to become "PR puppets", they are human and I like to see their human side every now and then for that reason.

In the heat of the moment people make mistakes, they tell lies, they throw equipment around and they gesticulate with their hands, even Seb's "looney" gesture after his incident with Mark.

As I've already said, I appreciate every driver for providing the entertainment they do for me.

But, as I said at the start of this comment, none of this means anything to a hater - they will just hate.

Look to Felipe in 08 after losing the title I'm sure he was frustrated but he earned a great deal of respect for the way he carried himself in defeat. As I said earlier you earn respect in how you lose just as much in how you win, given Germany and then Abu D, Alonso has lost a lot of respect from many racing fans.

That's where you are 100% wrong. I am nothing like a hater. And, you clearly haven't read my posts because there are lots of posts where I praise Lewis and many other teams drivers. In fact, I'm on record here saying I would welcome Lewis as a driver at Ferrari! I'm on record in this thread as with my appreciation of all F1 drivers. I've said in many threads many times that I wish all drivers finish races - in fact I'm on record speaking out against those who wish accidents and bad luck to cars and their drivers.

As I have said many times, a hater will just hate. They will not pay attention to any fact or issue or reason they will just hate. I mean, a hater will accept one driver plain-faced outright lying repeatedly, and will make excuses for that. But, when Fernando, for a moment errs and waves his hands at another driver, well that is unforgivable - even if he acknowledges Petrov drove a good race with no errors at the first opportunity.

Haters will just find reasons to hate.

fernando probaly had to say that petrov drove well because of being on the tv/radio and other types of media interview, but i hope that it was genuine, and lets be honest it wasnt fernando's fault as such he lost the championship

Well it was Fernando's fault. Even with the gifted 7 points he threw too many away. Those errors, the jump start, Silverstone, Monaco, Spa,there was at least one more, cant remember. And then not overtaking in the last race, though you could blame that on Tilke
