Seems like I always read about the negative aspects of F1 (both here and elsewhere): lack of passing, mickey mouse tracks, team orders, drivers without personalities, etc. So I'm wondering what it is about Formula One that we love. Certainly, we keep watching for SOME reason.

For me....I love the qualifying format now. Watching those guys claw and scratch to get to the next session and then battling during the top 10 shootout is great fun. I would be fine if they never change this again.

Ok, I got more, but I'm interested to see what others say.

The holy trinity...

The competitive environment that creates a "natural selection" if you will, cars evolve into the absolute fastest pieces of machinery in a frenzied way to exploit a given set of rules. Every ounce of performance that can be squeezed by technology; will be.

Then there are the drivers than can take that technology, and take it to 11.

Lastly, I love the global aspect of it, the variety of fans, their perspectives and the venues.

In my opinion the sport has rarely been stronger.

However, I still feel that the rules are still too aero focussed and therefore leaves the success to the teams with big budgets and aero facilities. There still needs to be a move towards rules which encourage mechanical grip over the "slipperyness" of a car. Then the smaller teams will have a chance.

+1. I wish they'd bring the V10s back though (cap it at a certain rev limit for safety reasons)...and decrease the size of the bloody front wing, the cars look like jokes with these ones. Will also aid 'slipperiness' on track.

F1 like any other sport in he world needs clear regulations and good sportsmanship.

Like now with all the internal and external affairs, movie-liked controversy and conspiracy, then its wrong..

I agree with what's been said so far. To add, I think the safety standards are great at the moment. We've sene some big accidents in recent years, and no major injuries apart from the freakish accident of Massa.

Also, the sport, particularly the drivers are very competitive now. Before we had Schumacher, but not many could match him - the competition wasn't great and we ended with seasons like 2002 and 2004. Now we have a number of top drivers. At the top there is Alonso, Hamilton and Vettel, and then after that there are some excellent drivers like Rosberg, Kubica etc.

My favorite bit is when they put those tubs with wheels at the four corners and they drive around really, really fast. Then the fastest tub and its pilot cross the line and then everyone complains it wasnt their favorite driver

I think we do have drivers with personality, and I really enjoy the mix. Alonso can be called a lot of things, but you can't say he hasn't got personality, I sometimes wonder if he'll breath fire.

I also like the mix of drivers and teams we have now, some real differences with both and they of course sum together, you have the fast man on lap qualifer of Vettel, the consistent smooth Jenson, Hamilton's aggression, Alonso's calculations, Kobayshi's bananzas, Rosberg's unflapable, Mark's ballsey etc. And with the teams, the fast but delicate redbull, the reliable Ferrari, the straight line speed of the McLaren. Right the way through the grid, you have Sutil getting into scrapes, Luzzi being timid, Force India started strongly then dropped back but with Sauber its almost the reverse.

The technology and performance of the cars, the reflexes, control and bravery of the drivers.

I enjoy the political drama too, at least with Todt in charge, with Max you got the feeling you were on a downslide. But watching the mind games, the adjustable suspension? Flexi front wing, and Horner moaning about the F-duct. Stefano defleating the pressure and fire from radio gate, Luca brazing Massa, talking up Ferrari's chances. Redbull, supporting Vettel. Lewis: I just gotta push, there's no pressure on me, Alonso, "I will be champion" when he looked out of it.
