The thing is, bridgestone dont really even need to develop their tires, so they only need a factory to produce them for the next season.

Bridgestone should be getting the same amount of money from each team, and making £££'s from that.

There's been talk that Bridgestone would have some of their people help with the transition to the new manufacturer.

Glad to see someone else is onboard with the idea of multiple tire suppliers  .

If the teams are going to be paying for their tires, why NOT have multiple suppliers??
as I see it, the exclusive supplier thing is more a F1-bussiness thing....

the teams dont want multiple tyre suppliers because it will bring costs up and not down. And I agree with them besides I have always thought one tyre make for everyone is the fairest way to see who the best team is.

Whats the point of low profile tyres? i can just see more failures!

yep for sure susspensions will have to be softer and wheels will have to be heavier and stonger.

Which also races a safty issue, what you want more rubber hitting a catch fence or more metal?

It's a condition that the potential suppliers Michelin and Pirelli want to put in because it would place a link between tyres they would be supplying for F1 and the tyres they use in other categories. I think they should come to a compromise. This has been posted somewhere before, possibly on here, but I think the rim sizes used in IRL would look alright in F1.

Additionally, wouldn't it mean that the tyres wouldn't last as long if there was less rubber on them? Considering the current tyre situation, I think that might not be a bad thing.

F1 tyres move around a lot on the rim, if you look at the slo mo shots during the chicane in Monaco, the cars hitting the kerbs hard getting airborn, the tyre is visibly wobbling. Similar to drag cars, the massive rear tyres on small rims, they have a hell of alot of movement in them!
Alot of the technology in the F1 tyres is in the side walls, like the drag cars have alot of movement on the rim! having 18" rims with low profile tyres means less latteral movement. I dunno I guess they would be cheaper to make being less technical, and probably slow the cars down a fair bit.

From a pure business standpoint I can't say I disagree with the manufacturers wanting 18" rubber. I mean it's relevant to street tuner cars that are the prime target of high performance street rubber since that's the sweet spot in size. And other racing series use the 18" size.

A side thought... tires unlike everything else in modern cars actually kept standard measurement instead of going metric. Anyone know why was?
