I'm not sure myself, only going on this:

day, Fernando Alonso has got out of bed in fiery mood for Ferrari. The Spaniard has made the morning even better for the flock of home fans as he has clocked the fastest time seen at the Barcelona test so far with a 1:20.738. More significantly, Alonso set that time during a run of consistently fast laps which suggests he probably had a fair splash of fuel on board.

if he had a fair splash of fuel to do that lap then he must have had a primer movers fuel tank on the day before!

i think that the popular belief of red bull, ferrari and mclaren being the teams to beat with mercedes just behind is correct thus far.

i dont really like making judgments until the first race. Testing is deceiving at best of times, this year more so.

aside from that McLaren showed that you can have a dog of a car at the beginning of the year and turn it into the pace setter so whoever is fastest now might not be for long!

Didn't know James Allen was a Ferrari fan anyway, unless you mean Ferrari fans say primer movers are house-moving trucks.

I've also not pointed out that fuel doesn't just determine whether a driver goes fast or not - do drivers push to the max in testing?

Maybe the Ferrari is fast, maybe not, it could've been a low fuel glory run for all I know but I tend to find the bbc pretty reputable and see no reason why they would suggest the time was genuine pace when it was not.

i don't know about that... they have very few testing opps. so perhaps when they do test, they dont have time for little games...

Now that's more like it. Nobody's mentioned who will remain fastest... just who's credibly showing the best pace right now.

furthermore they are not just simply saying they are going fast or not. They are giving some of the facts they do know, and drawing conclusions from these facts. The facts are there for everyone to see... so you can make your own conclusions as well.......

A few teams doing qualifying sims it seems today. Williams and Ferrari seem to have been doing a few. The Lotus is looking a bit fragile, which I guess this is expected but a bit of a shame if it translates into a reliability problem come the season proper, being reliable is a good way for them to pick up valuable points from faster but potentially more fragile machinery. They really do need to be finishing races regularly...

They would be quickest on low fuel runs which is what Red Bull & Ferrari have been doing according to the BBC F1news page. Mercedes and McLaren have yet to do low fuel runs,that starts tomorrow with Jenson & Nico.

McLaren have a big package of new parts to fit to the car overnight to try out on Saturday, when Jenson Button will take over from Lewis Hamilton, who drives again on the final day of the test, Sunday.That will put the McLaren into pretty much the specification in which it will race in Bahrain.

Tomorrow and Sunday will really show how quick the McLaren car is.

Unlike Hulkenberg, who set his fastest lap on one short run, Alonso's was set during a number of formidable-looking runs, in which he produced a set of consistently quick times around the same pace as his fastest lap time.

Dunno what that number was though, at any rate I'll look at james allen's blog and see what he makes of Ferrari today then I'll leave it I think, its not worth getting into arguments about testing.

Also -

Mercedes will wait until Bahrain to introduce their definitive aerodynamic package - which will include a modified diffuser, a crucial part that defines airflow at the back of the car and has a huge role in producing downforce.

Good work from the Hulk once again today. The FW32 had a new floor put onto it today fresh out of the factory so that appears to be working well. It better stay dry though tomorrow and Sunday so Barrichello can push the car further forward.
