need to build a new comp :/

looking at starting with

core i7 860
ATI 5850 HD or 4870x2 GPU

the rest is undecided and this is subject to change after price is taken into consideration!

Cool. We've just bought a batch of i7 860s for our system management computers. We're using them with Asus P7P55D LE motherboards and 4GB Corsair XMS3 RAM. Together those would cost you somewhere around £180-200. What are you looking to use the computer for, exactly?

bit of everything and games.

ive now decided on an core i7 920.. pretty much same as 860 speed wise, but the boards it comes with are different [triple channel ram] [so 3/6/12gb im going with 6]

but has 5-4 PCI-E spaces and can be easily overclocked to just under 4GHZ [quad core] with aftermarket cooling costing £40

definitly going 5850 radeon, [and 2x5850 in crossfire when it needs it]

in my experience crossfire/sli is pointless alot of buck for very little bang.

Also i don't rate ATi most games tend to be designed to work with Nvidia products so consider the nvidia GTX 295 its better - for a similar price

the 295 gtx is 2x the price of the 5850! :0

apparently, 2 5850s [same price as 1 gtx 295] get about 25% better fps than the gtx295, also, its a faulty nvidia chip thats killed my laptop! :/

i ment the 285, not sure about 25% better, i'd stick with one at first and see if you need to upgrade..
