Symonds received a lighter punishment than Briatore, but it wasn't no punishment.
I do also note how many of the posts on this thread (not the one quoted) discuss peoples' personal dislike for Flavio, and don't even consider whether or not he does, or does not, have a valid legal case.
But there were three people involved in that stupid decision. One gets no punishment, one gets an offer of no punishment and one gets banned for life. Whats that all about? You cant punish some people more than others depending on how much you like them or how much unfinished business you have with them. ....Oh hang on, yes you can, this is the FIA.
