From autosport.com:

Obviously, it is such a big challenge and so tight we have seen today in qualifying you cannot make a mistake as the run-off area here is quite small compared to new circuits.

You need to brake a little bit and stay in sixth gear - it's a really fast corner, much faster than it looks," said Alguersuari. "And when you take a bit of kerb the car gets very unstable.

"Perhaps they should change the kerbs for next year as this is not one of the best tracks for safety in the world.

"You carry a lot more corner speed in these cars than you did in 2006. With the slick tyres it's crazy how fast you can be mid-corner. And there is no run-off here, the wall is quite near to the track."

It is a fantastic track. It is equal the best with Spa and Silverstone, but it is still very dangerous.

"They have to do something with Suzuka, because although the resurfacing is a lot better, we need to have more escape areas and things like this.

"We could see that with so many inexperienced drivers, like the Toro Rosso drivers, they went off and it's pretty dangerous out there still."

:rolleyes::yawn:

To Quote Sir Sterling Moss - Drivers don't know they are born these days.

The better not make extened run off etc.
They need danger, they need a risk, they need a deterrant to going off track.

And run off areas make tracks look so dull and ugly and Tilke-esque. If the gravel was still at the Spoon curve Grosjean would have got stuck in there and out of the race.

With the cars being so reliable these days, I'd like to see the tracks make it harder on the drivers. Have them beached when they make a mistake! I miss the good ol' times when at times only 8 cars finished a race due to attrition, etc.

Regulations have tightened and I supposewith more and more parts made to last for so long it isn't a surprise that the quality control has improved.

I would agree with you, I must expand on my first post. I do not like tarmac run off areas and I like the idea of drivers having more of a challenge. However Suzuka should look at trying to move back the barriers in some areas.

Mind you that is nearly impossible given the way in which the track has been built.

Oh shut the hell up

Sorry that the drivers who put their lives at risk every race weekend want to feel a little safer doing what they do. I mean, who are you guys to get all high and mighty. Glock was actually injured. Massa came very very close to being either blind, having serious brain injuries, or even being dead. Henry Surtee's is dead.

People here want a bit more danger and excitement in F1, just for amusement. Yes, lets go back to the 70-80's where a driver died every other weekend. Drivers want safety, not less of a challenge.

How about grow up

Geez, up your dosage and chill out! This your post was uncalled for. Nobody is saying what you are implying. And the examples you listed are really not pertaining to this issue with the exception of TG - his injury was minor due to the tire wall and the car's safety design.

Oh really

The better not make extened run off etc.
They need danger, they need a risk, they need a deterrant to going off track.

I don't get why people feel the need to complain that drivers are asking for safety improvements.

I used to race a Connaught and an Alta. If you crashed, you generally died. Looking back, I must have been mad! Thank God this sport is safer and I would hate to think that the modern follower is missing blood.

I was there when Lorenzo Bandini died. You could smell hog roast for hundreds of yards. I shall never forget it.
