Toyota's third driver Kamui Kobayashi will take part in Friday's practice sessions for the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka, in place of the unwell Timo Glock.

Glock is suffering from a very heavy cold and fever so has been advised to rest by the team doctor in order to enable him to recover in time to compete in qualifying and the race itself.

Kobayashi, 23, is the reigning GP2 Asia champion and recently completed his second GP2 Series campaign. He has been Toyota's third driver since the beginning of 2008.

"It is a pity Timo is not feeling well today," said the Japanese driver. "But I am grateful for the team's trust in me to take part in practice for the Japanese Grand Prix.

"I have experienced the TF109 already and I am looking forward to trying it out at Suzuka, even though it is only for practice. I will do my best to contribute to the team's preparations and of course I wish Timo a very fast recovery."

I some how managed to watch both practices and still got 7 hours sleep even if it was a bit broken up. Force India look like they will have a decent performance as well as Red Bull they seemed to have the best downforce for running in the wet. To bad we didn't get any dry running.

Nice track, Lewis was seen talking to Pedro with his race telemetary in hand getting some advice about the circuit.

I keep forgetting that this is a new track for a lot of drivers.

I'm really starting to feel guilty about my initial dislike of Kimi, especially after the "painfully shy" comments in practice today. :(

I wasn't talking about McLaren either, I was talking about Kimi and his personality, not his affiliations. In fact I was anything but a Kimi fan when he last drove for McLaren.

Honestly, why does everything have to be a battle about team loyalties with you? Is it not possible to revise ones opinon of someone based on something other than who they drive for.

I have never said that Kimi is anything but an excellent driver, my issues with him in the past have been his apparent lack of emotion and passion, two things which have improved as of late. Okay, I may be stretching the emotion point in terms of his F1 appearences but his interview while rallying was quite enlightening for me, as was a video someone kindly posted showing footage of Kimi in the past and I have also listened to the views of people (as in practice today) who actually know the man and can assert that he is "painfully shy". Therefore is it not reasonable to assume that my opinion of him as a person has changed because of that? Or should I continue with my obviously incorrect assumption that the man is emotionless in case people assume the it's the biased and fickle view of a McLaren fan?

EDIT: I do believe I called him "(un)special" once one here, so I suppose that could be classed as me saying he was less than an "excellent driver". Just so you don't think I'm being selective with my views Tony. I do still stand by that, I don't put him in the smae category as Alonso, Hamilton and potentially Vettel and Rosberg (note the potentially in that sentence)

Ok I dont get it. Why do i get the feeling that i am the wrong recipient of this scolding?? Fair enough i was hinting and that sparked some painful issues you may have been harbouring against whoever for some reason - or maybe just your own insecurities in being able to make up your mind or whatever really ???????????????????????????? I could go on and on since i hav only rapped to you probably 5times in your whole life and you jump down my throat when i suggest that you will appear to like the guy more once he driving for mcheaters. OMG ... you know how many people will be changing their tune about kimi if he goes the mclaren ??
