Renault have more than enough money, although it speak volumes about the attitude of sponsors towards the team.

It will be very hard for the team to sign new sponsors from outside either the French or (whatever driver they end up with) Spanish/Finnish/Polish markets.

I think renault should ditch the crappy ING scheme and revert to the Yellow and black for the final few races.

Total is part of the ELF group and Renault have been working with them for more than 30 years, im sure a compromise could be reached :p

A re-invention as it where...

As Jean-Francois Caubet has said today, Renault must change its culture.

I just hope that doesn't mean it's back to the old 1.5L days :P

To be frank, the F1/FIA biosphere need to change. Each are enabling to each other.. There needs to be an intervention. With Renault a reincarnation would not be bad either. :D

Yup, but it has been a problem for more than 30 years now... only the increase of media coverage and globalisation has made it far more apparent.

When you think about it, this is hardly a surprise. ING have been looking out of Formula One for ages, so this was a good chance to get as soon as they could. I don't think it's the end of the world for Renault, as the contract was more or less up, but another couple of million in the coffers would have been nice.

From F1 Live:

Renault is not expecting to easily replace departed title sponsor ING. Prior to the Dutch bank's termination of its contract over the crash-gate scandal, ING was already planning to leave Formula One at the end of the season.

Before Flavio Briatore also left Renault because of crash-gate, he was openly looking to the corporate world to replace the lost ING dollars in 2010 and beyond. But the team's acting managing director Jean Francois Caubet said in Singapore: "I don't think the future for a carmaker will be having a main sponsor like we've had in the past."

He revealed that Renault is therefore prepared to make a bigger relative contribution to the team financially. "Yes, it's not a problem," said Caubet.

"Ten years ago Formula One [sponsorship] was [dominated by] the tobacco companies. Two or three years ago it was banks, but I think in the future it will be impossible to find title sponsors the same size as ING or whatever."
