pardon my ignorance.. but i was under the impression that this years drivers championship was won by the number of race wins instead of points but i the commntators haven't mentioned it so can someone set the record straight for me

They changed their minds and reverted to the old rules before the start of the season. Teams kicked up a stink about it.
