Kimi knew from the start that he was going to do that, just to make sure he got a clean exit and didn't get involved in someone's accident. He ended up covering more mileage as a result, rather than taking a 'shortcut'. Plus back in the day, that was an accepted line, La Source has had that option for a while now, it's an established trick, the runoff there is just a bit bigger now. He clearly did gain an advantage but only from smart driving and getting on the throttle better as a result
