I thought i was the one doing the joking, afterall i dont whip men very often!

Well how often do McLaren go for uncompetitve drivers (or any other team for that matter (deliberately)).

am i meant to take you seriously now or are you joking still?

No serious now, teams don't deliberately pick uncompettiive drivers do they?

Well Renault does

Renault has to....Fernando has it in his contract

From F1 Live:

The signs are growing that Nico Rosberg is set to move from Williams to the Mercedes-powered McLaren team at the end of the season as Mercedes competition boss Norbert Haug speaks in ever more flattering tones about the 24-year-old, who is openly assessing his options at the end of his current contract.

Haug admits he is keen to see a compatriot at the wheel of the so-called 'silver arrows', while McLaren figures have so far been non-committal when asked about Heikki Kovalainen's chances of remaining at the team beyond the year.

"We must set ourselves up to win races and championships, and if this can be done with a German driver, all the better," Haug said in an interview with the SID news agency.

He admits that recent efforts have been made to unite the three-pointed Mercedes star with a German.

"In the past ten years we tried with Michael Schumacher, Nico Rosberg and Sebastian Vettel," said Haug, who admits contractual hurdles thwarted deals being done with the latter two.

Rosberg however is a free agent for next year, and Haug said that since making his debut in 2006 the German racer has ‘earned a Formula One ritterschlag (knighthood)’.

Haug said the team is currently contemplating its next driver line-up but would prefer not to speak about those musings in the media.

"Perhaps our drivers will remain the same, perhaps they will change," he admitted. "At the moment I don't think there is large time pressure. It can be decided in the next couple of months."

Even though it would be sad to see Heikki go having Nico along Lewis would be a dream lineup! They have been team mates before and are friends so hopefully ontrack rivalry will stay ontrack

[EwanM]

It would be a strong move for Mclaren, shame for Williams though. At least now Hulkenburg will probably get a drive.

I can't really see Rosberg along Hamilton. That would mean the team would have two "number one" type drivers and no "number two" type driver. I have a hunch Nico will join BMW and a really serious contender for the McLaren seat could be Adrian Sutil. Since Sutil and Hamilton have a good friendship, there's nothing better for McLaren with this option. I think Lewis himself will probably try to get Sutil in the team. As for Kovalainen, I guess he could find a seat in one of the new teams (Manor for example).

I think the team would rather keep Heikki than get Sutil. Besides Haug wants Rosberg so McLaren will work fine with Lewis and Nico who are also friends and like i said have been team mates in the McLaren driver programme. It would be good them pushing each other hard while not having the same outcome as the Fernsooko Alonso era.

Sue me, but I think Sutil is a better driver than Heikki.
