i guess what i am seeing is the pessimists and optimists around here. i see FOTA's series as the continuation of F1 while the FIA 2010 season as the death of F1.

the only compromise is if FOTA gets its way and Max is too stubborn and egotistical to do the right thing here!

so get used to the idea of a breakaway. if everything goes to the shitter blame the guys running F1, not FOTA.

Well I must insist on being a pessimist then.

I think both sides are generally to blame for this. I do believe that FOTA were right to express their grievances with the current operation of Formula One. However to reach a compromise both sides must make sacrifices. I think an agreement is close to being reached, but sadly a number of rogue members of FOTA are spoiling it.

Who is to say that such rogue members wouldn't do the same in a new series if their demands weren't met?

what??? Max' sacrifice was.... sign now we will talk later!! Max does NOT compromise, history doesnt lie!

rogue members? youre not even thinking the series will go ahead yet youre going so far ahead now to suggest future problems?

but like you said a few members are spoiling it yet FOTA stays united! funny that. maybe the FOTA teams are committed 100% to the association and what it stands for. They hold in their hands the power, they are F1 not the FIA not FOM!!

There is nothing with predicting the future problems that such a new series would face. Infact they are unavoidable.
I agree, I don't trust Max. But I sure as hell don't trust the likes of Howett or Briatore who have, in my opinion, been 2 of the biggest stumbling blocks in the compromise.

Better the devil you know than the devil you don't - and I do not think Max would get re-elected if the Teams appealed to the various motorsport associations and ran another candidate.

I don't see Max's offer to set a 100M cap this year and 40M next year as a compromise. It is basically him saying: "Ok, you are going to give me exactly what I said in the first place, but I'll let you put it off until next year if you sign up to compete in the series for the next 3 years (NO MATTER WHAT RULES WE PUT IN PLACE IN THE FUTURE).

For an organization to expect a team to commit to compete regardless of the rules is simply ridiculous in the first place when one considers the cost of competition. For those teams to have no representation in how those rules are made or enforced is again ridiculous beyond words. FOTA is not asking for a lot here, they are investing millions and millions of dollars while the FIA is not, and all they want is a voice in how things are governed. If the FIA wants to continue to run Formula One as if it were a club racing series...there should certainly be a breakaway. There is entirely too much money involved, too much effort by the teams to have rules arbitrarily made and enforced by a governing body more interested in their bottom line than the sports best interests.
