I really, really hope so!

The last two years have been briliant experiences really, last year winning the Scottish was incredible, and it gave me a lot of confidence to come and tackle the big guys this year... And although we've had a lot of bad luck, our pace has been good.. and it can only really get better from here!

I've had 3 podiums in 4 races (the 1 being my mechanical problem that I described) so we're moving in the right direction, and I think that's my best ratio in a while.. probably ever, except for the Scottish rounds!

Keeping the dream alive is what it's all about!

The last few weeks have shown me that I can do it, and I need to do it. My mates around me are probably getting further from me now, now there too busy with girls and stuff, and getting in with wrong crowds.. and doing stuff I wouldn't do myself.. And I suppose it just makes me more determined to train harder and do better, because I've probably sacrificed my friends to go for it.. and if I don't make it.. what else do I have? lol.

Even my mate from racing is doing my head in just now.. if we're at a race meeting all he talks about is girls.. like if we're on the grid he'll point one out or something.. and how can you be focused on what you're doing if you can't keep your mind on the job.. And another thing.. when we're training, instead of focusing on keeping weight down, and being in peak shape.. all he really wants to do is get a 6 pack.. too look nice.. it's like.. what do you care about more? how you look.. or how fast you are!

Anyway, Rant over :P It just annoys me that my mates are getting further away, and I don't know if I'm being too focused on something, which at the moment.. is still a dream and not a reality by a long way.. And when my other mates have opportunites to win races in other classes.. but would rather chat to girls.. it annoys me!

To be honest, a girl will come along at the right stage. There not everything, just keep your mind focussed on this then when it comes to Formula Renault then you could you now have a glance, but you have your head screwed on in which you should be proud of yourself! You have potential! so don't let it slip! Friends are nothing, to be honest i hate all mine? There only there because of what i could do for them? Your either your own best friend or your Misses! just keep on this and have pictures of the people you want to be like to keep yourself motivated!

Regards to the body;
I used to be in peak shape because i did cadet swimming and boxing t a high class, but by time i was working etc, it kinda got flabby, the muscle is there, i can lift allot but i mainly got a lilk puppy fat. My misses loves me no matter what, thats what your misses will be like, at the moment you do whats right for you.

Quote from Michael Schumacher;

" Even if there's a slight chance to achieve a goal? Go for it! "

I believe Sam, that the only person stopping you from achieving what you want is - you! Anyone that puts you down or tells you otherwise you need to get rid, everyone on this Forum will tell you it's possible and so will your team! Keep your chip up son.

good advice VB!

Although I would say I already know what I need to do, just stay focussed..

Looking to this weekend, I'm at Larkhall testing on the Saturday, but won't be racing on the Sunday.. as our funds wont allow, with the British Round next weekend. It's a shame, since a lot of quick guys are up testing for a different forthcoming British event, and all the big teams will be there.. and some drivers will include many of the top 10 in Britain.. and 2 drivers will be there that are top 3 in Europe atm! I'll just need to show people what I can do on Saturday, try and turn a few heads! :P

Good luck man, don't worry about your friends to much either this is your life and potential career in high level motor sport here.

Good luck to you mate, whatever you do on Saturday it'll maybe get some of your rivals worried enough they'll drive poorly in the race they're taking part in, even if you aren't in it. ;)

Back from last weekend's Formula Kart Stars round in Rowrah.

We arrived knowing we had the pace, and we were confident of making it into the A final for the 1st time this season after some rotten luck! All weekend it was incredibly hot, and the track was amazingly grippy.

Friday testing went well, I was fastest in my team all day, and at the end of the day I was abouy 0.2 off the quickest, and my theoretical from all sectors were amongst the fastest.

Saturday testing was much of the same, and as we geared up for quali in the afternoon.. we realised we'd been on the wrong front sprocket.. meaning I was an average of 6 teeth lower than anyone else, which meant I was extremely fast in a straightline, but slow acceleration.. so we were stuck.. we didn't know whether to move to what everyone was on.. or to stick with a setup we knew was pretty competitive.

We stuck with the setup, against the team manager's wishes.. and went for it. I was in Quali A, and I needed a top 10 to gain a place in the coveted A final. In the early laps of the 15 minute quali session I was on it. I was posting fastest lap times, and at one point of the session, for a few minutes, I was the new lap record holder! Unfortunately, my tyres gripped up very early on, after 4 laps infact, and I couldn't go any faster.. I ended up 6th in the session, and 0.15 covered 2nd to 7th, it was incredible. The second quali session was a little faster, and I ended 12th on the grid of the 24 strong field.. and the only member of my team to make it into the A final.

For the Prefinal, from 12th, I was taken out into turn 1, and was well back. We kept the gearing the same, which was poor in race conditions, as I was passed on the exit of the braking zones a lot, and I ended in a very dissapointing 20th position, but we knew that the final was a long race, and turn 1 always has contact at Rowrah!

Then, as we were putting on the Slicks in Parc Ferme, the rain came, and it came in style. It was torrential, and the track was almost flooded as we went out. Starting 20th, by the end of lap one, I was in 10th.. and I was on a mission. Unfortunately, I made a stupid error on lap 2, and I moved over to the braking zone (where all the grip was) and just slid off, it was so frustrating, I knew I was in with a shot of a good finish. I got back on and continued in about 20th, but then water got into the airbox and the engine kept stuttering coming out of corners, and I eventually had to pull in and call it a day..

It was dissapointing after the pace we showed on Friday and Saturday, but at least we made it into the A final at last, and now I've got a 3 week break until I'm next out. In this period I'll be in Majorca relaxing, making use of the fitness suite and trying to get into shape for the next round hopefully!

Racing this weekend in the 5th round of the Formula Kart Stars British Championships :)

The event is in Lincolnshire, at the PFi circuit.. desciribed as the "home of British karting", and definately the best facilities in the country.

I've never been there before, but with 11 test sessions over two days before qualifying on Saturday afternoon, I should be able to learn the track and hopefully be near the front, but again, the main aim is to make it into the A final and take it from there. I think we've got a good chance to get some big points on the board this weekend, and after the last round where not a lot went wrong, my team manager now knows that when things go right, we are fast and competiting at the sharp end of the grid.

Mark Webber's luck held out last weekend, and I do describe myself as the Mark Webber of karting.. So hopefully my luck will really be with me this weekend, and I'll have my moment in the sun! :D

I'll report back on Monday, although I might be able to report back after every day as the track has Wi-Fi :P
