As long as they follow the values of Lotus then its a good thing.

It is interesting to note that after Sir Jack Brabham, Group Lotus plc are now also objecting to their name being used for new f1 entrants. The team may be able to call itself 'team lotus', but will it be able to call the car a 'Lotus'?

Regardless of the legalities of using the name; I doubt that the Lotus name will be harmed by competing in F1 given that their whole philosophy of car design is very closely matched to that of F1 cars, lightweight chassis with a (relatively) powerful engine. And it may even give the company the shot in the arm in needs to shift more cars. Let's face it a Lotus is a damn sight cheaper than a Ferrari so more people are likely to part with £35,000 for a Lotus than £100,000 for a Ferrari*

The original press release stated that Nino Judge and Steve Kenchington were both originally with Team Lotus, and of course Johnny Herbert is also involved (as a figurehead?). Admittedly, this is not like having Peter Warr involved, but after reading 'Lunch with Peter Warr' in Motorsport recently, he is far too smart to want to bet back into Formula 1!

Well, given the noises coming out of the Lotus Group, they might have to re-think this "Team Lotus" idea.

Please forgive me for my slow uptake as I now realize what everyone means. Yes it would be nice to see the name Lotus back in F1 yet the team is not a factory team so there is alot of tradition lost.

A source at the new Team Lotus outfit said: "We've kept Lotus fully informed of our intentions and are well aware of the need to protect its brand image. We look forward to having closer ties with it in the future."

All academic anyway, it will be Prodrive, USGP, and possibly Lola.

They shouldn't use the Lotus name and I can't believe someone actually sold the rights! Crazy!
