Well I like it because it show Europes diverse cultures in the best communication method in doing that which is through song and dance. Except when a given country is not singing in their native language it kind of stuffs up that very whole concept. rahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

I don't want a united European state to ever emerge, no. I think the European Union and structures such as Eurovision are much too involved in identity politics - an unhealthy form of brainwashing - for my liking. Just because there is no united European state hardly means to say war is going to break out. What a crazy assertion.

Well it isnt a crazy assertion. Croatia will soon enter the EU. Weather Serbia does eventually as well or not wont matter because as long as one of the 2 nations is in the EU, the 2 countries Croatia and Serbia cannot go to war anymore. The obvious reasojn being is that Croatia's economic interests are tied with the rest of the EU when they become part of it. Any attact or war would effect all the other counties. Being a powerful state the possibilty of war would be prevented. This is an example of course but you know what I mean. Besides I like the idea of for example being able to travel freely between Slovenija and Italy and many other counties within the EU.

There won't be a war in Europe that is for sure.
The US played a blinder after WW2. They binded France and Germany so economically together that they would always depend on each other, and this expanded to the EU

Don't get me wrong, Kiki, I don't mind the European Union as a trading block. The fact is we're in the 21st century, so some issues are best dealt with at European and global level. That said, each region's circumstances are not all the same, so devolved power is necessary as well. What I am objecting too is a fully-centralised, undemocratic, Big Brother European state. State formation has always been quite an arbitrary process (thought obviously states are necessary for a meaningful and productive human existence), and people involved it usually have some kind of hidden agenda; so I'm extremely wary of anybody involved in the process.

Although I see the vallidity in McLaren Fan's points and posts, what was that for Bud? Simply just a comment to disagree with me? I bet if I had said the EU sucks that you would of posted that the idea of a United European State would rock. And I bet you are glad I no longer live in Melbourne right?

na actually i cant see it working, not when you have nationalist people like you living within it that would not let go of their own heritage and truelly embrace a united nation the same way the colonies of the Americas did!

The European Union is just swapping one form of nationalism for another, though. Like I said, instead of an organisation trying to form a French identity and nation, we'll have another trying to form a European identity and nation. In fact, the European Union are already at it. In the United Kingdom, most can't even decide whether they're British, English, Scottish, Welsh, Northern Irish or Irish, never mind European!
