Debut India GP will not be night race
Gaur insists event on schedule for 2011 date

An official of the future Indian Grand Prix says it is possible the race could be staged at night.

But Samir Gaur, Managing Director of the company in charge of construction of the New Delhi track, insisted that the debut event in 2011 will be held in the Indian daylight.

"We want to see the outcome of the first race after which we will see if we can do a night race," he said in an interview with Reuters.

A floodlit race in New Delhi would ensure an afternoon viewing time, instead of a morning one, for the bulk European audience.

Gaur, in charge of the JPSK Sports company, insisted the global recession will not affect plans for India's first Formula One race, despite the fact the event was originally scheduled to join the calendar next year.

"The design stage is in progress and regarding construction, the investigations of the site have also started," he said.

The track is due to be completed in April 2011.

The US has loads of great racetracks that could be spruced up a bit to host a grand prix. Laguna Seca would be my personal pick, i don't really like the current Watkins Glen layout. I've always thought it might be a laugh to have one oval race in the F1 season, as it would pose a unique challenge. The trouble with this is that it wouldn't showcase the superior braking and cornering performance of F1 cars over indy and NASCAR cars...
Ovals are nothing new in grand prix racing. Some of the classic pre-championship trakcs were ovals or had large banked sections, Miramas, Terramar, Monza, Avus, Brooklands, Montlehry. i would personally like to see it again.

I don't mind short dirt ovals. In fact I've recently taken up going to some local dirt circuits as of late. I don't particularly care for racing on large paved ovals, but if I really wanted to I'd just assume watch Indy or NASCAR (don't care for either, myself).

Road Atlanta is amazing but i reckon it would have to be mutilated beyond recognition in order to contain F1 speeds. I wouldn't wish this on such a lovely track

A return to American and Canada would be an excellent move. Not sure I'd like another street circuit though.

As for another night race....

I agree! NewYork would be awesome!! I would be there cheering for Toyota :)

Surprising how not too much has really been said about it, i was wondering how far along with construction they are... i saw a computerised perception of part of the track in a magazine - it looks pretty good!

Laguna Seca, we're talking times just over 1:00. It's a beautiful circuit, but it's just too short. Plus they'd demand run off areas be made. I doubt Laguna Seca would bother to comply, it's not like they need F1. It's just not worth their time and effort.

Road Atlanta again is a nice circuit, but again is very short. I mean, the LMP record there is 1:O7.O56. F1 cars will going a lot quicker and again meaning the track would need a bit of a revamp.

A NewYork Street race is an interesting idea to say the least. Cept, I just seem to get the feeling that the circuit would annoy the locals and disrupt daily life quite badly and they'd be pretty against. Personally I'd just rather see a normal circuit in america.

But the truth is, if America has no good circuits we can go to, it's not worth our time is it. Not like we have to race in america. But if we do and it's a decent track, then fair enough.

A lot of people forget about Road Atlanta. Thats an awesome track, the only problem is that its DEEP in redneck territory.
