Don't be so dang serious. This is a place where we want to hang out. If I want to be preached to
or yelled at, I'll engage the wife. Remember, I'm not always wrong and you are not always right!
(that's for y'all as I could never say that to dear wifey!)
Condescending attitudes. Check 'em at the door!
Shall I continue....?

Threads often go off topic for various reasons but generally get back on topic on their own or with a little moderator prompting.

The bigger issue is often on the Internet people seem to think that the same rules don't apply as they do in the "real world", it's so easy to hide behind an alias online and say what they want without any real repercussions. I believe we should have the same basic respect for another person online as we do in real life, maybe I am asking too much, but that would be nice.

Being able to agree to disagree, not everyone can agree all the time, and let's face it, a forum would be dead without peoples differing views.

I know I set myself up by asking the ""Dumb Question of the Day"";
but, it was meant to be a self-deprecating way to confirm that I
don't know everything and that I have no problem admitting it.
What I didn't expect was the running, condescending referrals
to my self-professed ignorance of most things F1.

If someone doesn't know something F1 or has a legitimate question,
there shouldn't be a problem asking what may seem to others to be
a dumb question. Between adults it's not meant to be a situation
where one can "lord" it over others, so much as it's an opportunity
to share knowledge, experience, and understanding.

I guess what I'm looking for is the same thing MOA mentioned:
respect.

By the way, is there a forum rule that pertains to the posting of articles/opinions/polls from other sources?
I realize that my own way of quoting sources may be over-the-top; but, at the very least, should we not be posting links?

I don't believe there is a rule against posting links to articles, often I post the article in a quote box with a source link underneath.

Oh, I didn't mean that we shouldn't post links!! I meant that maybe we ""should"" post links to the information we share.
I tend to post most things in their entirety; but, sometimes specific comments are posted, without a reference point.
Personally, I prefer to read a comment in its context, as it provides the background for it being made.

I agree, using select quotes can be misleading and I have seen it used to misrepresent a story to strengthen the member's stance in their post! It's a journalistic "technique" to sensationalize something that is pretty mundane and ordinary, quotes taken out of context etc. That's something else I dislike, using select sections of quotes to make it look like something else was written.
