Four letter words

Postby LewEngBridewell »

Once, earlier this year, I got a stern reply from spankyham in the Bernie Ecclestone thread, informing me to blot out ALL letters in four-letter swear words, so "younger fans" won't see it, and can duly pretend such words do not exist.

See message below.

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=13284&p=398347#p398347

I've already caught spanky commiting exactly the same crime already this year:

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=13343&p=399383&hilit=+four+letter#p399383

And he's just done it AGAIN in the Italian Grand Prix thread:

spankyham wrote:It's gonna be such a relief that the Lewis fanbois will be sedated by this win and we won't have to endure all the cr4p ... at least until the next race. I so wish I could somehow get Lewis into Ferrari but loose his loon fan fringe.

Now, whereas I got a bollocking for using this language, I've seen many other members, including moderators like WB also use such language, and get away without being reprimanded like a child.

I think it's now time to either ACCEPT that such a rule is unenforceable, or, reprimand all offenders with a patronising message, rather than a selected few.

Inconsistent stewarding? :hehe:

Sorry to make light of it Lew, you know me I can't help it. I'm of the opinion that it's not a bad word but maybe things like this are better addressed/discussed via a PM to the moderating team or a post report.

No worries mate, I'm honestly not so bothered, I just find it a bit of an "interesting" situation that's all

You raise a good point Lew. We do try very hard to be consistent with things and with people but sometimes we get it wrong and sometimes we let things slip.
My understanding about 'naughty' words was you just type them as they are and if they're allowed they'll stand, if not then they will be changed by the swear filter. We clearly need to clarify the situation.
You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.

Spot on LewEngBridewell. You score a maximum 10 out of 10 in the "catch me in a contradiction" round. But, as you will also have noted, as the more senior mods/admins have also partaken from the "partial blanking" well, I've deferred to that standard. So, hopefully we've clear up all this @#$%^&*^ #$%& :drink:

And thanks for the chance to clear that up for you and all the forum members

Guys and girls, we are having a discussion in the Mods room about how we implement or don't implement the rules on swearing :-) will let you know what the outcome is. Normally we have all had a bar fight to decide the outcome.

I like this - because it means pretty much certainty that I will end the evening standing on top of a pile of battered bodies crying out a victory roar! :D

I personally think the rule is rather s*** because every one who uses the internet sees these bad words everywhere and even in school I can guarantee a child who is 12 or older hears a bad word at least twice a day

I'm a little disappointed that this thread isn't just a list of curse words :irked:

You should see Stoney scream "Freedom" as he barrels his way across the room with his broadsword held aloft.

Lew I'm with you. I also got a bollocking from spanks because he got upset by my language. And then three days later was chucking expletives about. So I just ignored it and carried on in my usual colourful way.

Keep it up... that's exactly how Andrew started down the wrong path.
