Behaviour in the forum

Post by racechick »

Behaviour on this forum recently has been appalling; rude, aggressive and unnecessary. Two threads have been locked, which is grossly unfair on members wishing to debate civilly in those threads. As moderators we feel we are very tolerant but patience is wearing thin. Here are a few reminders on how to behave and how not to behave on the forum
This is an F1 forum, people will have passionate and differing views. THAT IS OK. They will express those views. THAT IS OK.
BUT IT IS NOT OK TO BECOME ANGRY AND AGGRESSIVE IF SOMEONE DISAGREES WITH YOUR VIEW

IT IS NOT OK TO BECOME ABUSIVE AND NAME CALL OTHER MEMBERS.

If you do feel your self becoming angry, WALK AWAY FROM THE KEYBOARD.

It is unlikely you will change an opposing view, just as your own is unlikely to be changed, so make your point civilly and move on. You can point out that you disagree without becoming unpleasant. A few examples.....

Well that's not how I see it.......
I disagree because .........
Well my interpretation of that facts is different......
Etc etc etc. you do not need to personally attack another member with an opposing view.
THE NEXT INSTANCE OF THIS BEHAVIOUR WILL RESULT IN A FISHING TRIP OR LONGER BAN.

If you feel someone has behaved towards you in this unacceptable manner, do not respond in kind, to do so results in pages of bickering and is likely to get you included in any forthcoming punishments. Report the post and pm a mod, preferably one who is online at the time.
Finally, if you have not read the forum rules, now would be a good time to do so.
Now lets enjoy this forum!!!.
You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.
Abe Lincoln

maybe we should force members to take a forum etiquette vow.

Ok, at risk of sticking my neck out, I'll give a non-mod opinion.

Maybe those that do repeatedly offend, and especially those that cause the threads to get locked, need a harsher punishment than the current 'fishing trip'.

Most of the main transgressors have had fishing trips already, have had repeated warnings, but still dont seem to care about the harmony of these boards, and still go on and create conflict.

Very good points. I believe the Forum Rules also correctly outlaw extremes of hatred venting against drivers people don't like.

I haven't been around long enough to know all the various members; but, it would seem to me that it takes two to tango...

there's a difference between tango and kickboxing even though on the surface they kind of look the same.

Still... you can't kickbox by yourself, otherwise it's called "shadow boxing", no? :P

I agree, and it would be a shame. Those... abrasive... individuals DO make good points from time to time. I've held back on posting this a few times, but I'll put it here in response to no one in particular. I think it sums up a lot of stuff I've read here recently.

I think I've just found my new avatar! :hehe:

It's the general lack of respect from 2 or 3 more hostile members (who are clearly over-compensating form something :hehe: ) that take things too far and wind other members up that spoils the forum. It's not good when some decent members are holding back on posting.

Could we add a couple of IQ/bipolar tests into the forum registration process....forum members have to have a minimum level of intelligence/common sense. It's tough for newer members to understand if 'specific' members are just stupid, or are bipolar. In text form especially, it's tough to decipher.

Aimed at no one in particular of course...but it would also help keep the peace. :)
Breaking News: Lewis Hamilton has officially overtaken The Fonz in race wins. With 88 races less. Lol (Without a specially built blown diffuser, illegal front wing, preferential treatment)
