The qualifications and experience you need will differ depending upon what exactly it is you want to do. I remember talking to my brother about this, for he is doing engineering. McLaren's website has some good general information about this, but I'm sure other teams do as well.

That should help a little bit, but there is nothing wrong with writing to teams etc. in order to obtain more information. From what I read about this a while back, it seemed as though some previous motor racing experience was preferable (a euphemism for necessary), so I would not just confine yourself to researching careers in Formula One. Have a look at rallying, touring cars or junior racing formula such as Formula Three.

It would be a great career to get into. Good luck.

May I suggest meeting with your guidance counselor's on a regular basis? That way you will have someone else helping guide you academically and they will know your goal's and help you with the proper path you will need to achieve your goal's.

Best of luck and keep us all informed if you can? I personaly would be very interested in following your progress!

Best of luck,
Gregg

To be honest, sometimes studies advisers aren't all that useful. They about the subjects and grades you need to become a doctor, but they don't very much about how to be a pilot or a motor racing engineer. Also, somebody who's clued up has the initiative to look for information themselves. I think the lad ha got it right: look up information on the internet, write to various teams, keep his options open about which motorsport he is going to choose etc.

Your best bet, in all honesty, is to start quite small. Helping out a small team, perhaps one that competes in non-championship events, is more likely to yield initial success. You've got masses of time ahead of you, so starting off at the lower rungs of the ladder is probably the best choice. :)

lowest formula you can get is karting :hehe:
but other than that you should look at Formula Ford teams, but i do not know if you would be allowed to work on the cars as there is usually an age limit for pit crew at race tracks.

but back at the teams HQ they might let you do some things but i think they would want someone at the age of 16+ for any sort of full time apprenticeship if they could afford one.

just study mechanical engineering or anything that is helpful to lead towards that in highschool. plus tinkering with a kart engine is always a good start!
