Formula 1 constructors have revealed the designs of their new cars for the 2016 campaign.

But what should we be looking out for ahead of pre-season testing? BBC Sport highlights a selection of key features...

...Ferrari

Ferrari's new SF16-H model sees the team revert to the push-rod suspension for the first time in four years and large sections of white on its livery.

Key feature: The biggest change concerns the V6 combustion engine. The charge air cooler has been relocated from its original position between the cylinder banks.

Expert view from Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel: "When I joined the team there were a lot of people changing their positions and it was a difficult time to have expectations.

"But now we have had a much better winter to prepare and therefore we will be a strong team - as we have seen already last year - but even stronger this year."

Ferrari plans to provide an evolution of its power unit ahead of the season-opening Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix.

Over the course of the current first test in Barcelona, Ferrari is running the rule over its latest system that is also being run by Haas, while Sauber is using its 2015 car.

With engine development being opened up in some areas for this year, manufacturers have more freedom with how they can evolve their engines through the season.

Despite the short time frame from the start of the test on Monday and the initial practice session for the race in Melbourne on March 18, updates to Ferrari's engine are expected...

Ferrari

Fulfilling expectations

If you had any doubt about what Ferrari expects from 2016, you need to look no further than chairman Sergio Marchionne: "We have a strong team and while our opponents also are, we want to be the team to beat in Australia, because we are the most successful squad in history." The Canadian-Italian also issued a warning to everyone involved in the team: there can be no excuses for not challenging for the title this year. Marchionne went as far as to say not winning the title in the next few years would be "a tragedy", making pointed reference to Ferrari's barren spell which stretches back to 2008. The problem now is delivering. With Sebastian Vettel at the helm Ferrari has one of the most gifted drivers in a generation and one who has been given a new lease of life at Maranello. But they are not chasing a standing target -- Mercedes' development will be relentless. The world champions were testing new 2016 car concepts in Brazil last year and brought a development engine from Monza onwards, proving how seriously it is taking the threat of Ferrari. The success of Ferrari's work over the winter -- such as its reportedly innovative work on the combustion chamber of its new engine and the aggressive design of the SF16-H -- will go a long way to determining the team's chances.

Giancarlo Fisichella: “An incredible day”

Livigno, 25 February –

There are those who like to head for the mountains for a week’s skiing at this time of year, but they probably do not expect to be able to watch a Formula 1 car in full flight on the snow. Today, at Livigno, in the Italian Alps, a large crowd of fans and enthusiasts watched former Formula 1 driver Giancarlo Fisichella put on a show and they certainly weren’t disappointed. The Italian preceded his run in the car with a visit to the Hublot shop, as along with Kaspersky, the watchmaker promoted today’s event. He then met up with guests and journalists before taking on the challenge of driving a Formula 1 car on snow. Giancarlo tackled a short run specially dug out for the event and also drove down the town’s main street, waving to the crowds. “It was an incredible experience,” he said, “because the whole area shut down to be able to watch the show.”

Image wrote:MARCHIONNE: MERCEDES IS SO CALM AND THAT MAKES ME WORRY

Ferrari big boss Sergio Marchionne said that the serene Formula 1 winter pre-season testing enjoyed so far by Mercedes makes him a worried man.

Earlier, the president of the Maranello squad had targeted a winning start for the red team at the forthcoming Melbourne season opener. But that was before Mercedes began dazzling its rivals with lap after lap in Barcelona testing.

“Around the world in four days,” Marchionne declared with a grin to Italian journalists at the Geneva Motor Show.

He said Ferrari is also having a good winter, as the “power unit and the car are matched well and the drivers are happy, even if there is still work to do.

“I hope we can put it on the front row at the first grand prix,” said Marchionne. “I’m hesitating, because I see that Mercedes is so calm, and that makes me worry.”

Montmelò, 2 March –The second day of the second test saw Sebastian Vettel post a best time of 1.24.611, running on Medium tyres. This afternoon’s programme focused on the usual set-up work, running various different fuel loads. Tomorrow, Kimi Raikkonen will take to the track for his final day at the wheel of the SF16-H prior to the first race of the season.

Sebastian Vettel: “I would have liked to drive a little bit more but we are happy with what we have so far. I am not concerned about what happened to Kimi. Obviously, you don’t want these things to happen but if they do here, during a test, it’s ok. It would be worse if they happened in a couple of weeks, so it is not an issue. This is a test and it takes time to look and check everything. We still have time and two days left here, so let’s try to use them and the we’ll see. We will push and try to do everything. Our President already said a couple of times he is expecting Ferrari to be in the front row in Australia, so at least he is consistent. We will push and will try everything we can.”

Montmelo, 3 March – Kimi Raikkonen was back on track today for his final test run prior to the opening round in Melbourne. He completed 41 laps of the Barcelona track, which has been the only venue for winter testing. The main item on his programme was a test of the three softest tyre compounds, Soft, Supersoft and Ultrasoft, using the latter to set his best time of 1.22.765. On his installation lap, Raikkonen debuted a prototype of the Halo system, a tubular carbon structure mounted over the cockpit to improve driver safety in Formula 1.

Sebastian Vettel says he believes Ferrari's new car will bring him "closer" to world champions Mercedes at the start of the Formula 1 season.

The question is, how much closer? Well, the indications from the final pre-season test are that it might just be enough for Ferrari to make a fight of this year.

The concern among neutrals after two dominant championships from Mercedes and an imposing performance at the first test last week was that Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg et al were simply going to pick up where they left off at the end of 2015.

But the picture has shifted during this week's second test and Ferrari now look much more credible contenders.

This was underlined when Rosberg said at the end of the test: "We know Ferrari are very close - but we're not sure if we're ahead or behind."...

Father-of-three Allison rejoined the Scuderia three years ago and was appointed technical director in July 2013.

Ferrari did not disclose whether the 47-year-old would be given an extended period of leave ahead of the Bahrain GP.

The statement read: "Our colleague James Allison has suffered the sudden loss of his beloved wife Rebecca. We at Ferrari are united with him and his family during this period of profound sorrow."

Such sad news!! My thoughts and prayers go to Allison's family and friends!
I read that she had meningitis; but, that's irrelevant, after all she was still young!! :(
