alot of newbies to the sport seem to only see/understand one point of view and that is of their favorite driver. I feel that so much is being leftout from being so blinded.

You've heard the quote about not being able to teach an old dog new tricks? I see your point, but at the same time the sport evolves rapidly not just cars but obviously the drivers have evolved as well and anyone that's willing to follow it for a couple of years and read and join forums like this one... in other words, become a FAN of the sport will get just as much enjoyment out of it as an old timer.

Tex, I really question your motive behind this poll. I did vote - I am in the 1 to 5 category. However, I could've answered your question another way and said over 30 years behind I do a lot of reading behind the history of the sport, and I feel I am just as justified to make an opinion about Formula as any long-time fan does.

Good man :clap::clap:

I'm in the 5 - 10 years category, but like you, have done enough reading to talk about the times before I was watching the sport. Of course, older fans have been there longer and experienced it longer, but its the young fans that will be cheering F1 long after the older fans, and they don't deserve to be patronised or deflated. 8-)

WOW! That was a really well structured argument. Well done.

Sorry, weak attempt at being patronising. :hehe:

Seriously though, it doesn't matter if someone has watched 1 race or every race since 1950. All opinions are valid and if someone is wrong or mistaken through inexperience then that is what a discussion forum is for. It is always good to learn something new. The length of time someone has followed F1 is irrelevant. As I said on the other page, all this survey did was remind me how close I am to 30!

You don't need to have watched a set number of races to say whether you thought a race was exciting or boring or to offer your opinion on an aspect of a race.

One year old love is just as passionate as thirty year old love.

Really? You're taking your Viagra regularly, right? :P:whip:

My tongue gets stiff and I find it very difficult to talk.

Take the poll for what you will. :)

I watched F1 on and off through-out the 2005 - 2006 seasons but really started watching it on a more regular basis during 2007

The first season i ever wacthed from beggining to end was 2008 and i have been hooked ever since (maybe thats because of who my 'favourite' driver is...maybe its not)

I dont just watch the sport because of 1 person...i watch it because its a team sport(although some people dont like to think it is) where anything can happen during a race...and even though i do find the technical side of the sport like 'gobbledeegook' i still find it interesting how new designs and technology is created to improve the aerodynamics and the speed of the cars

Other reasons why i like the sport : the competitiveness, how each race is different (except Catalunya and Valencia they are both a bore to watch :hehe:)

Oh and i must add the BBC's coverage is always entertaining to watch espeacially the interviews with the drivers

My first ever race was the 1994 Japanese Grand Prix. This race Hill had to beat Schumacher to stay in the Championship and did so in a race where it rained heavily and they had a restart with combined times from 2 sections. This made for a thrilling finish as Schumacher didnt have to pass Hill on the track, only beat him on the clock , to win. Hill just held him off and took the championship to the final race in Adelaide.

Where the two drivers raced nose to tail for 30 odd laps in a very exciting manner before Michael made his mistake and then either aggressively defended his position OR deliberately too Hill out depending on your interpretation.

Ever since then I have been pretty hooked cept for 2002 and 2004 when the Ferrari/Schumacher steamroller became a little too uninteresting for my taste.

I thought they were fisrt class, but I am a Schumacher supporter and I'll admit to being a fan of Ferrari back then (sure as hell ain't anymore).

If folk think today's Red Bull domination is boring, then 2002 and 2004 were suicidal :yikes:

Well it's their loss. :hehe:

I dare say if it was the team and driver that they support that was dominating the way Vettel and Red Bull are they would hail it as the best season ever. Par for the course.
