Has there EVER been even a remote possibility of Ferrari leaving F1?

Nope, they worked out that they would get beaten much worse in high technology LMP by the likes of Audi and Porsche

They were never going anywhere, they desperately need F1, these are just transparent threats to allow things to be made easier for them

I would say most if not all teams would use their standing within motorsport to sway opinion and regulation their way, Ferrari are no different, neither are Mercedes, let's not forget how Mercedes "suggested" that it might leave the sport if the new engine regulations weren't pushed through. The difference these days is that the politics are played out in a much more public arena. With mass media saturating the F1 world coupled with stories going viral in hours via social media, every piece of political BS is broadcast and rebroadcast around the world.

It was Renault that introduced the idea of the new engine specs. It was Mercedes that followed, it was Ferrari that agreed to the new spec if they'd go from a 4 cylinder inline 1.4 liter to a 1.6 liter V6. It was Ferrari that pushed for a one year extension. Honda is on board only because of the new spec. There is truth and there is viral media hype. But why discount truth only because it comes in the form of 140 character messages?

Sometimes the "misunderstanding" is simply because we don't have all the details. Twittergate a couple of years ago was proof of that. Today we know McLaren purposely set their driver adrift in order to prove a contract negotiating point. Sometimes it's no misunderstanding at all, it's one entity trying to recoup something from nothing. Like twittergate, time will tell.
